pug 205 mi16 some help please
hi i have got myself a problem with my mi16 it splutters n misses when u hit the 3500k mark and there on, even worse when hot. when it gets hot normal running temp it start to lose oil pressure but oil pressure is fine until it starts to get hot i dont no if thes 2 problems are linked ?
i have checked my rotery arm dizzy cap leads plugs all my earth wires are good ignition amplifier is fine.
i thought mibby my coil pack going faulty at high revs is this possible or would it just be faulty all the time
as for lossing oil pressure when its hot i tried changing oil for thicker stuf but didnt realy make much difference
anybody have any sugestions?
anything?

Could be coil pack, in my experience a failing one will break down, (or at least be noticed more) when its under load, which at 3500 revs it will be. It will also be more noticable when it (the coil) gets hot.
As for loosing oil pressure when its hot, dont know tbh mate, sorry! Cant see how they would be related, unless the viscosity of the oil is to low so it goes p155 thin when its hot and bringing the light on? Not sure tbh but just a thought.

ye they do loss oil pressure when there hot but i think mines losses to much as it sits at normal 3 bar then when hot it drops right down to about 0.5 of a bar and i no from a m8ts experience burst oil pipe no pressure means knackered big end bearings and i dont want that lol

A mate of mine has an mi16 in his 205 and i have to say, your oil pressure is way below what it should be mate! His car holds brilliant oil pressure, 0.5 bar on that engine indicates it really does need investigating, engine out time i would say.

I'd say your first port of call should be to replace and/or clean up the Earthing points on the engine this could well be the problem that is making the gauge jump... Mi16 should hold 4.4 bar of oil pressure at 4k rpm at 90deg IIRC
might well also help your running problems.

pugs seem Very suseptable to bad earthing problems.. try cleaning the battery terminals, and basically make all earthing points (main one should be on top of the gearbox) are shiny and make good contact..
i made up a new earth strap for mine just to make sure too .lol
just another thought... any signs that the altenator might be on the way out??
what sorta set up is it running? standard proper managment? or 8v managment with a distributor? or is it on aftermarket stuff

i am sure its a gti ecu that has been delimited and runs with a distributer.
now that u mention it this morning i noticed my battery light, light up slightly but i asumed it was because i had to give a jump start to a m8 but i had to take the battery out of the car to do so didnt realy think much of it. what were u thinking?

well if you had the heater blower on , then the battery light will be on but quite dim
(a feature Gtis have )
but basically mine started playing up a little bit like that and it turned out to be the altenator on the way out.... not cheap!
Ps.. oil pressure ? lol

hmmm wouldnt of thought so.. its more likely to be earths or a temp sensor.. possibly air flow meter... possibly the breather system all clogged up... possibly the vac pipe come off the fuel regulator... lots of things it could be really!

its in the haynes manual for them mate.
basically measure the resistance accross pins,
is your air flow meter a little thing. or a big one with the air filter attached to it?

you are running Mi16 managment then by the sound of it.
could well be the air flow meter then. . www.205gtidrivers.com
have a look on there mate, there will be some more ideas. assuming the timing is fine on the engine, then its just a matter of finding the wrong part.
