Default Are we just wasting our money?

So I was just thinking. I've got 20k to get a new car, then thought are we all just wasting our money for the money of buying a motor tuning it etc.

You could have new clothes tv's games holidays etc etc...

I dunno, I'm on ebay now looking for a daily motor and I have this insecent feeling inside to go blow it all down town on clothes drink pizza and hookers!

Ok minus the hookers - But you know what I mean.

What you guys think?

Are we wasting our pennies when we should be using it for something we actually need?

Like a 52 inch plasma.. Which I do need

Money is there to be spent.

If big TV's , pizza and drink is your thing then spend it on that.

If buying and modding/tuning cars is your bag, then thats where the money goes.

If you can get more long term enjoyment from using that money another way then yes you are wasting it.

I spend most of my disposable income on my cars, there isnt anything else currently that I enjoy doing more with it, but then I had the sense to buy property previouly etc, so dont feel "guilt" at wasting money on my cars as I know ive taken care of the key things first.

Just buy a 306 HDi as a daily, an E39 M5 or a Monaro as a toy, then spend the other 8-10k on TV's, clothes, drink, hookers, and a giant beanbag that stands about 3' tall and fills the biggest room in your house. Always wanted a room that was nothing more than a bean bag and a wall mounted TV/Stereo setup...

not really wasting if you can afford to spend it and you enjoy what you spend it on.

I drive a nice car and often think, why not by a cheap motor that i dont care if it gets bumped, scratched etc, but then I love my car and enjoy the fact i have worked hard and earnt it.

Well I'm thinking about buying a cheaper motor and spending the rest on the house.

I mean due to cars my house is a shit heap. It needs completely refurbing and my missus keeps going mad at me for it.

I think I might get an oldish range rover always wanted one.

But I know I'll get bored and end up pimping it lol

if i had 20k to blow, i would have about 6k on a toyota verso for the mrs and kids, about 8k on a nice 3dr cossy, and throw the other 6k at the house, carpets, plastering, painting, etc. you will be surprised how nice it feels with newly plastered walls and fresh paint in ya house.

50 inch is so last year m8,

By the way, when you say you "have 20K" do you mean that you have paid your mortgage off and have 20K just sat there, or do you mean you have 20k of borrowing to spend?

As in the current climate if you have debts, it might be worth paying them off rather than spending the money, thinking more long term as it were.

we were thinking of getting a 60" when we bought our 50", but the wall where it was going on was only big enough for the 50" so that's what we got

but now you have put up the link, i might consider sticking the 50"i in the bedroom where we are currently suffering with a teeny tiny 19" and "upgrading"

the mrs will kill me though

i dont think just buying a sapphire cos and driving it is wasting money as u can usually get it back, but i think buying say a new pug 307 for 13grand and then finding that this year is worth about 2K is bloody irritating

you may get your money back on a cos if you keep it for 5 mins!

its not a great time for property investment but if it was me i would pump it into my own mortgage or buy a seperate property.

property that needs improvement is your best bet if you are willing to put the work in.

trust me in 3 years or so when that 20k motor is worth 5 your investment will return you 30 for your 20k!maybe more.

if you must spend 3 to 5k on something to tinker with and keep you interested.

its your money tho dude,do whatever you thinks right.

p.s i have been on the verge of spending 22k on an m3cab so the brain can pull you either way!lol
