Whats the lowest outside temp you have seen over the last week?
This morning it says -5.8c on the weather station with a -6c last night, the temp probe is 20ft in the air so ground temp must be a fair bit lower.
Yesterday morning the van showed -6.8c on the way to work.
What are the lowest temps you guys have seen on this cold spell?

I saw -6 on Saturday morning in Shrewsbury.
Coldest temp I've ever known in UK was back in January 1982. Think it was around the 10th and RAF Shawbury down the road recorded an official overnight low of -26 deg C.
We had a max and min thermometer ( not properly shielded so not a 'proper' temp ) and it had got down to -28deg C.
Remember looking at the temp just as the sun was coming up and it was still -23deg c.
We were supposed to go out for my Mum's birthday the Sat night before but the car had frozen to the drive and the roads were too bad so we didn't bother.
Everything sounds different when it's really cold - engines have a more 'bassy' note. The snow was so frozen you could walk across the top of it and birds were frozen in the trees.
Ah yes, the winters were much colder back then...............

Over 10 miles, being a diesel car it needs a extra heater (Webasto) if not it would never get warm.

Nick, I did say back in 1982 though.....not this year. It honestly was extremely cold that winter in 81/82....well for UK at least. Was certainly lower than -16 deg C I swear to you.
Must be a few oldies on here that remember it surely?

From the BBC weather site:
