Default VAT Question ?

Assuming you order and pay for parts from a uk supplier to come from America at the old 15% vat rate before jan 1st 2010
Would you or the dealer be charged more vat when the parts arrive after 1st 2010 ?

I think that as long as you have paid in full before the new VAT rate comes into effect your ok.

If you've order'ed & paid for the parts @ 15% VAT, then thats ok, even if they are delivered in Jan 10.

Also, I think the VAT will still be 15% if you order the parts in Dec 09 & pay in Jan 10 as thats the VAT rate at the time.

As long as you have been invoiced for the parts on or before DEC 31st then you pay the 15% rate. You do not have had to pay for them, only be invoiced!

I think a lot of companies will be sending invoices out on the 31st lol

Only if you are invoiced. If you ordered parts last january but have not been invoiced before 31st dec you will have to pay the full VAT applicable at the time of invoiceing.

Ive had to go through all this last week with my accountant.

If you are talking about import VAT, any goods that arrive in the UK after midnight on the 31st Dec you will be charged 17.5%.

If you have ordered from a UK supplier in December and they have invoiced you in December then the 15% rate should apply. They will be charged the 17.5% vat rate from customs but will reclaim this in their usual way.
