i need some advice...

im looking into possibly spraying my car myself, i'm building it myself morealess, so wouldn't wouldn't mind having ago at painting it myself aswel... but i know absolutly bugger all about car spraying pretty much, so if anyone can give me some advice, or a 'how to' if you like, that would be awesome!!

my car's currently panther black, and i'd like to keep it panther black, so help on what primer etc i'll need would also be great.

also what sort of grit sand paper's do i need? and what do you use to clean the dust crap off befour you paint??

and finally lol, i'll be doing this in my lockup, so can anyone tell me where i'd be able to get big clear pastic sheeting type stuff to make a make shift paint booth with?? cheap idealy as it'll only be getting used once... hopfully lol

any help with this would be greatly appriciated

ok
u only need to primer over filler work, stone chips,
do all the filler work thats needed, wet sand around the filler with p400-p600
then mask it up primer it then let it dry after that
wet sand the whole car with p800 (use new sand paper on each panel) then look for chips ect
if any chips, pin holes come up use a 3m putty if u can get it handy easy to use, after about 5mins its dry wet sand with p800.
use panel wipe then tack rag the car, panel wipe removes wax oil ect tack rag removes dust.
the clear flim can be got from 3m Ł20-30 a roll.

i understand what your saying about it possibly being a waste of money, but, if im honest, i'd rather try and fail than not try and wonder how it could of been... if that make's sense?
im not 100% committed to the idea as yet, im just trying to get an idea of what i'd need, and where i can get it from...
i helped a mate prep he's mk3 fiesta for paint which i though was alright, but never got a go at the spraying

anyone got link's the these bit's i'll need, im pretty crap when it come to searching for thing's...

If you know "bugger all" then either take the advice above on getting the right equiptment and practice on some sheets of metal or get it done by a paint shop.

Takes a long time to perfect mate. A full car is a big task if you know bugger all! Ive been working on cars for years and can spray to an excellent std but i wouldnt do my own full car, only engine bay and isnide etc...and the odd repair!
Just remember, its all in the preparation. Gunning the paint on isnt the hardest part!

Ive just done this to my RS1600i tonight. Finish is fine, but like i say, wouldnt paint the whole car although i have fully primed it

I'd only spray my engine bay and maybe a wing or two. No metallics. And I used to work in a body shop to boot.

Spraying a car is worth paying for. No need for some drippy, tiger striped mistake.

the main cocern is extraction of the fumes, as once you start painting and have no form of good extraction to take the paint dust away it will setlle down on mainly roof, bonnet and most everywhere else and the finish will be crap
