Anyone know why screen wash would smell like eggs???

My mates Audi (just bought it from a garage) STINKS when you spray the screen wash, both in the car, but also from 3 feet away outside the car - I mean it HUMZZZ

To the point you gag

WTF is causing that??

 

Have seen it caused by mixing different screenwashes and theres a jelly substance gathers in the washer bottle

Drop the pump out the bottom and clean it out along with the filter and refill and flush scooshers with fresh stuff

 

would running it empty, then running some fresh water through it and then fresh water and screen wash do the job rather than taking bits off?

 

Could do matey but the filter part might be choked with the jelly shit

It may shift some of it, but you won't get rid of it all.

 

Whip the tank off and give a good clean inside. It smells off egg because its gone mouldy inside. They'll be loads of shite at the bottom.

 

I've smelt it before too lol. its fucking rank. i drained mine by popping the motor out (so easy on an orion lol) and draining it before i started.

i filled a kettle with hot water and some car wash detergent, ran the tank dry over a few mins ( i didn't want to burn the motor out) and did that twice, it fixed it anyhows.

 

Cheers for the speedy response all, going to give it a few fresh runs to see if it clears it for him, if not it is going back to the garage it came from for them to sort it.

 

my transit did this. the wife gave me some stralizing tablets that are used for cleaning baby utensils as she is a midwife she had them handy. it smelt foul but it worked. i emptied the tank out and filled it with hot water and dropped two in. worked fine.

 

Good idea that! Should kill off any mold in there.

my recovery truck does this, everytime i squirt the windows it smells of stale water lol

 

ok, some hot water and ran it through a couple of times and then fresh screen wash and water and smells a lot better, so will see if it comes back.

 

ive had that happen a few times. Its when you use something other that screenwash mixed with water, i.e, it was washing up liquid with me. put a little bit in as i didnt have any screenwash, left it standing for a while, and then it started to stink

Its one of the worst smells ever, cossie had this emptied it all out and flush through with hot water and washing up liquid

FOOOKIN BRILLIANT!! when my mate was using the jets to clear the tank, one is shooting over the back of the car - stinking of eggs!!

Some daft old bugger comes walking along, gets it right in the mush!! Poor cooont, didn't even see him, he got a right pie full.
