Following on from my thread yesterday about my mates cossie, I couldn't believe my eyes when i got up today and looked out the window, the snow was MUCH worse than before.
To my amazement, when i did leave the house I saw a sight that is totally rare at the best of times, but I swear to god there was a guy in a fcking Lotus Carlton driving the other way when i pulled out my street! WTF?
I can't remember the last time I saw one of these cars on the road, and I see one today!

Any two wheel drive cars with wide tyres !! Its funny seeing little standard punto's etc carring on as if there was nothing wrong, whilst the big bmw/mercs etc are slidding round all over the place...

bmw's are the worst car ive driven in the snow. i was getting overtaken by old ladies in 106's going up a gentle slope and my car would only go sideways with the lsd and wide tyres .

I have to agree that with the BMW comments, My 330 is crap , with the traction on it just limits the power and you get nowhere , with it off , its just spin one wheel and goes nowhere, or sideways.
My capri is terrible in the snow , with the torque of the v8 it just spins the wheels even with a lsd . Thats why its tucked up in the corner of the garage now.

Things haven't been as bad this time round here but in February there were a few BMW's abandoned. The slightest gradient and its useless. Most RWD stuff seems to struggle, a couple i know had a 535d and mx5 they gave up even trying to get off the drive.
If i leave my Jimny in 2wd its a nightmare as its so short and light just too much throttle when you think its fine and its off and follows the camber on the road.
Last year i was out in Lincolnshire when it snowed and some of the hills were practically undriveable, some chav in his paxo just had his foot welded to the floor and just span away but this 911 kept the power steady and presumably with the help of the engine over the wheels and traction control it surprised me! We'd stopped to help a burger van, my mates Syncro pulled a transit tipper and burger van all the way without any drama

Lots of motors are useless then again it really shows some drivers are useless aswell still trying to use 1st gear and far too many revs

my transit has been ok so far but i i've yet to set off to work and there is more snow today than yesterday! It's a rear driver but has brake traction control so as 1 wheel spins it brakes it and power goes to the other side without reducing power. After that i can switch it off if need be.

my m3 hasn't moved since it started snowing. old transit has though. 3rd gear and tickover and it has done a lot better than i thought it would.

Sheady, Rod and I drove along the M4 sideways the whole way from London to Birmingham in my M5 a year or two ago. TBF, rear wheel drive, wide tyres and no tread does make it interesting

Totally agree, I have a Citroen C2 as a company car with skinny little tyres on it, never had a problem driving to work and back the last few days, not had alot of snow but other cars I have seen with wider tyres are sliding around.

My 2.5 V6 omega was shocking!!!!!! 235 tyres, rwd and being automatic doesnt mix well with snow and ice.
On the other hand, my 65bhp van with sausages for tyres soldiers on through it quite easily! ![Big Grin](https://passionford.com/forum/images/smilies/icon_mrgreen.gif)

I have an E92 M3 V8 with the Michelin Cup+ tyres on it. I can officially say it is utterly crap in the snow. I couldn't even move across a flat car park.
The other day, in 5 degrees, bit greasy weather the traction control had to kick right in as it shifted from 4th to 5th at 115mph. Even needed some opposite lock along with the traction control.
I think a massive amount of whether u have grip or not, is down to your tyres. I have the completely wrong type for this weather, so have put the car away for a while..
Cheers,
RW

Any performance car with summer tyres is going to be fucking dire. Just get some narrow steelies and put some winter tyres on. Then it will drive like a dream!

id say my old 1988 bmw 316 is the best car i've ever driven in the snow, light wieght and skinny tyres, no abs to fight with, and our lasses 07 corsa is lethal, front wheel drive with abs is shit in this weather, imo.
