I got stuck on a hill today in my Volvo C30. Was going well and had good momentum and the person in front slowed down to go over the glass like ice and was sliding sideways and was more or less facing me when she'd finished flooring it.

Just reversed back into the kerb and sat and watched about 6 crashes and a million near misses. Some very close to me. So yeah, Volvo with TC was shit.

Benni.

My mr2 has been fine on the few roads that have been left ungritted, but its only really round the houses. Main roads are fine and havent had any snow yet.
Gonna have to go very careful if it does snow though!

Megane is shit coz the tyres are wide, FWD tho which obviously helps alot, dunno how you guys with RWD and wide tyres manage.

Friend of mine has a 350Z and thats not too good in the snow by what she's said. It seems 309bhp, rwd, 19" with 265 wide rear tyres doesn't work in the snow

Thats the way to do it!

ANY car with normal/summer tyres will handle like crap in the snow due to the fact it has pretty much no grip.
So in reply to the OP, 99% of the cars on this site are the worst.

My boxster has been trapped in my car park for the last 2 days as there is a slight incline and it won't make it up to the top.

I debated using the S2 but didn't like the thought of spending up to an hour crawling through rush hour traffic in it. Knowing my luck it would probably cut out, then as the starter would be very hot it would refuse to start!

The best vehicle in this weather is a taxi!

Well I am in mainland europe so I get to drive all sorts of cars on winter tyres.

I think what can generally be said (and has already been mentioned on this thread) is that cars with very narrow tyres will do much better in the snow than cars on wide tyres. Reason is that there is more weight on a smaller contact patch. Just look at the wheels they use in WRC.

Also FWD has a slight advantage when the road is flat but in the hills, RWD will be just as good or even better if you fill up the boot/ get some passengers in the back.

Oh and personally, I think the worst car to drive on snow is an unloaded RWD flat bed van / lorry.

Best car is probably a Porsche or Smart Fortwo. Rear wheel drive and engine in the back = huge traction under all circumstances.

its spot on but gotta remember to turn off the TC before handbraking round icy bends cos it brakes to straighten it up

battery died today tho, bugga, 57 and it needs a new battery!

I remember my dad ending up in a ditch years ago in his BMW 325..... and I am glad that I aint got my 320 cd anymore cos I don't think that would have liked the snow and ice either.

In fact I had to chuckle the other day cos I was told the brother in law had bought an X3 (he had originally wanted a BMW 5 series diesel but decided against it cos they are in Germany at the moment and it wouldn't fair to well in the snow)........ wouldn't have thought the X3 would either to be honest, it's not a proper 4x4

The XR2i is pretty good to be honest, as was the Fiesta ST I had.... was talking to my friend the other day who bought a Mk7 Zetec S and he says its shocking in the snow..... probably down to them silly 205 tyres...

Not in the case of my mr2!

Im dreading having to actually get somewhere!
Had the first fall of snow tonight, and i couldnt resist. The roads are dead so i went for a play!!
Did some good little 1st gear drifts and on full-lock it spins straight round 360!
Hardly reverses and cant pull of without spinning the wheels. Took 3 attempts to get up the hill aswell.
I shit it if other cars were nearby!

Now the rain round here has frozen nothings any good. I had all 4 wheels spinning in 4th gear at under 10mph!!! I just managed to straddle the crown of the road and crab along the road. The slightest dab of brakes or throttle just sent it ditchward.

I never tried mine on snow... It's stored away from the salt and winter...
