i put in for permission to have one of them put onto my council lockup, said it breached security terms for them in case of a fire and they needed to get the door open and i wasnt there,

i'd rather lose my car in a fire than have it nicked and chopped up/smashed by pikeys!

awesome bit of kit though by the looks of it well worth the money!

the Garage Defender is one of the things my old man used to recommend when he was a crime prevention officer.

That garage defender lock is advertising there's something in your garage that might be worth stealing imo.

Telescopic posts inside are a better idea, they're a couple hundred Ł fitted iirc.

Always had Garage Defenders on mine although I see what somebody is saying about it looking like something is inside. I have a council garage but seeing as they won't wanna know if it gets broken into, screw them when it comes to protecting my own property.

The garage door will be ripped down before you get through the Defender.

You just drill them into the ground. The screws will be covered when you have the padlock in place. All we did was dig a bit of concrete out and put some stronger concrete in.

nice one mate, what size bolts did you use for yours? might pop along to potters along the road and get some decent sized bolts for it!

They came with it. As mentioned they are special bolts I'm not sure exactly what as it's been a couple of years since I installed it but it'll take a bit of effort to remove it!

All I did was chisel a square hole about 1" square in the garage floor inside near door, then cut a hole in the garage door in line, the hole is about 6" deep, used some square bar, cut and shut to get a 90 degree angle, so it comes out of floor and the hole in the garage door closes around it when shut, on the end I welded a old bit of fiesta rocker shaft so I can put a padlock through the bar, I put a square plate around the hole either side of the door just for some extra strength, so a hour or so, next to no cost, most was scrap pieces, and does the job.

install an anti ram post. like this http://www.mflsecurity.co.uk/anti_ra...urity_post.htm

but do it inside the garage door, not outside.

if soeone is going to have the door off they will quite easily. but if the post is inside it wont let anyone one know that you have something you want to keep.

or just get a skip on the drive lol. iut of a git if you want to go for a drive tho...

not sure about the one i posted, but others i was looking at go 750mm deep into the floor, surrounded by reinforced concrete etc. they only extend around 550mm so less leverage.

it will take some doing to get one out.

so much so that any potential theif will just shove both barrels in your face and get the keys no doubt...

these are amazing from what ive heard about them

motorbikers use a simular thing but with a hoop on top so they can chain their bike to it and they always survive the tests on them

just dont loose your key for it

getting the garage door off thos is a peice of piss, one of those things or not.

if they cant lever the bottom, the side or top will come out without too much trouble as most of the wood the doors a secured to are all rotten! then they can just wheel your pride and joy over the stopper

at least with a post in the way, its going to take a bit more effort.

Autolok does a garage door lock.

I have one on my council garage and it doesnt stand out as you only see the extra keyhole.

The one I made for free is about 10" tall, I also considered the noise it would make under 4 500watt floodlight, 2 on the garage and two on adjacent properties, that are also triggered.
Fortunately there is always someone in the small cul de sac with 9 properties all looking at each other due to position.
I keep my car on the drive, the lock is on me dads garage round corner.
I always work on the assumption pikeys are lazy shits, given the choice between a garage with defence and one without I think they would choose the easier one.

Those defenders ar no good for roller doors though are they. Anyone do anything for those? I already have a telescopic anti ram post in the ground.
