Default Difference between refacing and skimming flywheel

Just had my gearbox recond and got myself a new alcon 6 paddle. My flywheel has taken some heat and I think it needs skimming. Got a quote if 40 quid to do it. been searching and it seems refacing is also an option.
Can some one explain the difference to me please.
Cheers

old timers usually call it refacing , where as whippersnappers call it skimming

There is a difference between skimming and grinding. We always choose grinding as its superior for a flywheel.
