Default Fitting a ST170 engine..

.. Into a mk3 Fiesta. Is this straight forward? The bay has been altered to fit a 2ltr zetec (the mount) and basically just wondered what else would need altering? I'm assuming a different set of driveshafts/manifold?

Also, whats needed to fit the gearbox? Is there anything that needs modifying at all?

Presuming the 2ltr in it now is a silvertop, the mount will be a bit different, not sure if you can make something up that will fit the early 2ltr mount. The gearbox mounts completely different to a cvh / zetec fiesta gearbox, its mounted to the innerwing on a st170 rather than on a cradle, will need a fair bit of work. You will also need custom driveshafts, you will need to sort the cable shift fitment, and will have to run aftermarket management as using the st170 stuff will be very tricky, as its quite intergrated into the car.

All that said, it has been done before.

In short, not really. We are currently putting an ST170 into a Mk6 Escort GTi and another into a Mk2 Fiesta The Escort is proving a smidge awkward as the air conditioning is wanting to be retained

Cheers Nomad lol. Yes both are/will be using throttle bodies and aftermarket engine management.

The gearbox is cable shift and in both cars we are retaining the IB5/BC boxes.

Ive fitted the St170 into my Mk3 Fiesta, just had to modify the engine mount as the hole pitch is different from the silvertop zetec, Also had to add another idler pulley so the water pump could turn the correct way, and have the alternator fitted to the front of the engine

Also need to modify the alternator bracket to give clearance for the water pump, and the bottom radiator hose needs modifying

Gearbox wise, I use a BC box albeit Quaife, and use twin 45 carbs and after market engine management

heres the pic of the engine with the modified engine mount, and pulley that I made

if you want to buy an engine mount already done, Simon Smail at SITECH Racing will do you one, and theres a company now doing the pulley kit, think its RACELINE, they do all the stuff for the Caterhams etc....

Hope that helps a wee bit

Hmm, Ok guys.. So its not as difficult as first though. Dalsy, I think you should take it upon yourself to tell me exactly what I'd need!!

Nomad, can you PM me when you have an idea on pricing etc? I'm now feeling the need for some proper fun^^

Edit : I'll PM both of you as I doubt you'll see this topic in the near future^^

it easy i did this years ago ,you just need to mod the engine mount and make a pulley for the water pump and trim a little off the fiesta alternator bracket .
