Load of shite in my opinion. I used to know a guy who claimed to be able to speak to the dead etc... and he was actually pretty successful and down to earth, hence why you might take him seriously.
He was forever trying to get me to consider the possibility that these things existed. I'm open to accept anything when I see proof, but he always changed his tune when I asked him to tell me something personal etc, simply saying "I don't need to prove anything to you".
I can draw a pretty good conclusion from that.

just watching a bit of QI and it was a question on there. "ouija board" was a game invented by "parker" boardgames.
It was always a board game. It just became unpopular as a game after the 1972 film "the exorsist" because people got wigged out by the idea of ghost and possesion etc.

exactly that, they said the game was "supposed to give you messages from your unconscious mind..."
then people started to use it to contact family members who'd died in the first world war, it wasnt until the exorsist film it became really famous for what it is now.
Although the origions of the game itself is intriguing..

I knew a bloke who suffered from paranoid schizophrenia, (not warren btw)
and this bloke was well into the nazis and hitler etc.
when he wanted to do an Ouija board when pissed we agreed, he got a message from hitler or should i say we gave him one, and he got sectioned shortly after
still to this day he thinks hitler spoke to him

Just reminded by my Brother and Mum
2003 when the family got together at my Aunts and did the Ouija board, my Aunts dog went fucking Mental and was aggressive towards her. She owned the dog for 8+ years NEVER had he been aggressive. After the glass smashed the dog bit into my Aunts hand.

There isn't a way. Your just fucking with people who need to Rest in Peace.
However, if you want to try something try EVP. Setup a tape recorder and a sound (static, Running water) in the background so the sound is set to one frequency (this make any voice recorded easy to be found). Ask your questions and leave it.
Your going to need a audio program so something like 'Audacity' will work perfect. Record the sounds onto the hard drive and inspect the audio. Any change in Audio Waves mean s you have something. You may need to enhance it to hear it. Obviously needs to be done where someone has died etc. Doesn't need to be haunted.

Me and some friends messed about with one years ago.
5th or 6th attempt we had a stange vibrating feeling in the glass, and when everyone realised none of us could be making it vibrate and removed fingers, BOTH lights in the room blew (as in shattered the bulb). One i could've put to coincidence but not both.
The other fact that the lights were on different circuits on the breaker made me wonder too.
Not for me again.

Ouiji Boards were originally meant to be a game, and yes, most of the stories you hear of people telling from doing them back when they were young are a bunch of bollocks.
BUT
I do believe that our physical world is not the be all end all. There is something else here wether we decide to awknowledge it or not is our own decision.
The other half and I have a bit of a fascination with this and watcha TV show called GhostHunters (Think most haunted but based on evidence rather than someone with a spirit guide)
