Default Cost of a 500bhp T4 Engine?

Ok got into a debate about a friends, Friend's cossie engine which he is telling everyone he had built for 3.5k with 500bhp on a T4. Now knowing that a 400bhp+ is about 4.5k mark and if i remember correctly i remember a user telling us about his new Harvey Gibbs engine was 4k+ before bitching he was after 450bhp.

So what is the going price (rough, not asking exact figures) for a 500bhp T4 YB?

I'm not building one as i don't have anything to put it in LOL

However, i just want to smack my mate who thinks he had it built for 3.5k

I'm sure you could build one for less but i'd rather someone else does it, least that way i know it'd last. Like AGs, his gets battered all day long and its still working

500 brake could be done for alot less the 8 k imo ,

obviously its the reliabilty factor with a cheap budget build ,

t4s are monsters and will find any weak link in the motor ,

espically if its running a fair chunk of boost ,

lots of variables so hard to cost accurately

my 500bhp spec head cost 2.5k.
and theres 1k of macining in there with longstudding, surface skims, rebores, polish, knife edge

id guess at 8-9k if its a diy build, transmission is the expensive bit, especially if its a 4x4.

for 500 brake its no different from 400 imo as i always build them to go to that ,maybe heavier cams but these days a gt 30 conversion a hart plenum and some 83 lbers on a decent longstudded ported headed engine will see 500 nicely
this conversion if you have atleast a donor engine can be done for app 6.5k
cheers danny

Using a T4 suggests hes stuck in 1989 so his he quoting prices from that decade .

Maybe he shops at Poundland? Doubt it'd be that genuine power for that price, I was near on that for a practically standard build and that was taking the engine out and putting it back in myself. If he's so confident about the cost/power then get him to provide a graph and reciepts to show us, not saying he didn't do it, but he must've got the parts and work done at a superb price to do it all for that.

Hi Danny,
When you say better than the old T4 setup.. can you please explain in what way better.?
Genuine question, I’ve never driven a cossie with a GT30.

What do you get for 6.5k -
cams, ported head, gt30 turbo, inlet plenum and some 83lb injectors, longstudded block, polished crank, balanced rods, new shells, new oil pump, pocketed pistons + valve cut outs.?

I have driven a cossie with what is regarded as a old school setup, low comp, 8 x803 injectors with 500 inlet + Roller bearing T4 and I have to say it was very impressive, this was a seriously quick car and well setup. Its shame I didn’t buy it.. lol
(Engine was Built by AVA) and cost the owner over 8k for the engine only.

going back to the post,
I’m sure every tuner has different ways to achieve the 500bhp. I don’t know which is best or cheaper. but cheap – normally comes at the cost of reliability, if the engine was built costing 3.5k -I’d very much doubt that it can be done for that and have a genuine 500bhp.

thanks,
Manoj

Whatever

I love the way people nock the OLD T4 and 8 greens yet most of the faster 500 plus BHP cars still run this system and have done for years with no blowing up issues

A lot of the big name tuners love T4 and 8 greens

Why is that do you think

,,,,,,,,,,,BECAUSE IT WORKS AND IS RELIABLE ,,,,,,,,,,,,,

But not cheap

I dont doubt you maybee can do it for that money but i bet it wont take the shit i give mine without blowing up ,lol,

i wonder if you had a 200block already as a running engine take it to bits fully, have the block faced and long studed and have valve cuts machined into you old pistons.. which would probly cost £400 to do this at a local machine shop, fit new rings, shells, mains, £300

take the valves out the head and die gring the head your self spend a whole week doing it. have the cams reprofiled to bd 14's £180 and fit back together with a wrc £150 head gasket.

get a t4 copy from usa £150

die grind a 4x4 inlet out and drill holes for extra injectors like a rs500 setup! £60

buy 8 blues for £60
modifiy two 2wd fuel rail to fit £60

make the engine loom your self £40

ecu £300.

£1550 you will get 500bhp I DO NOT RECOMMEND THIS SETUP LOL does anyone else think that my pikey lash up will do 500bhp lol!!

volume doesnt help measure air flow though, just because the volume is the same doesnt mean the shape is!

if i was aiming for 500bhp a T4 would be my weapon of choice every time, i just prefer the way they make there power over a GT30,

on 83lbers

What I find amusing is that some people think it's SO easy to get a genuine 500bhp....

A roller bearing T4 would be better than the old school T4 for a start £1500ish
