Default Possible Cracked Engine Block

I'm being told by a mechanic friend that the block is cracked on my 1.6 16v Zetec Escort i have....

I'm curious what the symptoms are and if its possible to do a test to determin if a block is cracked or not?

Otherwise its replacement engine time

I can't see why your block would crack.

No anti-freeze in the coolant would cause a cracked block.

Put a ratchet strap round it an pull it together again!

on a serious note...cold weather, lack of anti freeze...crack!

test? pressureise the coolant system if its a coolant related crack, or or if its a cylinder crack, leakage test and watch to see if the coolant rises out the cap?
