I need to change 3 capacitors on a main board, i have removed the old capacitors have the new ones, but is the long rod on the capacitor + or - ?

On the mainboard it says + so need to know what it + on a capacitor

Positive is long lead, negative is short lead.

Usually they also have a band marking/arrow type thing on the body to show polarity.

just a quick thought why did they need changing, not a good thing for a cap to have issues..
