Default Reverse car envy

Ok, over here we never got the Cosworth or RS models (North America). Some tight import laws prevent us from bringing in cars we want in Canada for 15 years and in the USA until they are 25 years old. For many years people dressed up the XR4Ti as a Cosworth. It's been a hard life until the 3 door and saff were allowed to be imported.

Seems the UK doesn't have any restrictions as such but I'd like to know what kinds of cars that are NOT sold there do some people covet? What pile of crap or everyday car do I have on my road do you wish you could get your mitts on?

What North American car is popular over there with little pockets of rabid fans?

There are 5 saffs in my country - 2 on the road. The other side of my country is halfway to England from here.

Surely there are more than 5 mustangs there? You can buy them new right? I was under the impression that Mustangs were not uncommon.

Some of you should come over for the summer car show scene. I have one of the biggest ones right on my street. My couch is very comfortable.

No shortage of cars like that. Lots of guys with big beer bellies and flame shirts or hawaiian print shirts. Boyd Coddington look-alikes abound.

Oh dear god no. Don't wreck my image of the UK as a place where people have some class.

I grow fatigued of living in the wild west with rednecks. I need to know there is one last place on the planet to escape to.

Not sold by Ford new, they are all personal imports or specialist dealer imported, with no warranty from Ford.
Mainly LH drive, some are converted here to RHD but are less desirable.

I've had a Fox coupe for 9 years.

The buzz here about the Fiat 500 coming is intense. The Fiesta is coming soon as well but not in 3 door trim.

I'd love to send you a bunch of crappy SUVs and the Pontiac Aztek.

I grew up in the bush. I've dodged owning a truck for some time. On a recent trip back to my home town (small) I saw 5 smart cars in about 5 minutes. It was surreal.

I thought about buying a small truck for hauling my welder and bits from the boneyard/breakers around etc. Decided if I need a truck I'll rent one.

Ross, I'd own a beater Mazda b200 or b2600 4x4. Ranger if I wanted to spend a bit of cash.

If I had married some lady that wanted 4 kids and loved country music I'd most likely be driving a new F-150. My lady loves Jags, The Clash and cats over kids. Thankfully.

F-150 doesn't fit in my garage nor is it "me". Been looking to trade my S-type for an X-type recently.

I'd be happy going back to a Granada/Scorpio. Hatchbacks make great trucks.

The only problems with yank motors is that they just don't do corners, and HOW do they keep the power output of some V8's so low? ..

Saying that, the modern Corvettes are fucking weapons, with a 7.0L V8

Aye lazy power ... And the Ford trucks are soo stiff they corner pretty decent .. If not then go around sideways.

But the some of the Big $$$ mustangs come with alot ... Most pick-ups now come with atleast 300 BHP .. The highest gas is the Tundra with 385.

They have to run on shit gas. And most power figures here are measured at the crank by ouija board. Rarely does a car see a rolling road. The myth of the big power V8 abounds. Making a metric assload of torque at 1500 rpm is their saving grace.

Also some of the modern V8 cars that you can get your mitts on like the Roush Mustangs handle very, very well. Most of them pull over 1g on the skidpad with a neutral feel.

The other %99.99 of handle like shit. Remember though that most driving here is done on freeways. Straight on ramps/slip roads provide the excitement for most.

True that.

A couple years ago I used to sell Roush at a Ford dealer. The Roush Stage III supercharged truck was scary fast. The Mustang was an animal.

My old buddy Mitch who used to be the drummer for Nickelback bought a beatup super bee once. White faux leather interior. He drove the piss out that car. But dear god the brakes and handling were shit.

No one here ever talks about that cobalt SS....

Yep, it was a Dodge with a 900000 litre hemi engine in it.

Ford over here even tried to replicate the Saff 4x4 with an AWD Tempo. What a colossal failure. Only saw one in my lifetime and I log a lot of time behind the wheel.

We can get pretty much every American sports car over here. But the difficulty is getting them in RHD, as far as I know only a limited run RHD version of the Mustang was made.

Still if you go to a specialist dealer to buy a yank tank you would not probably mind about the LHD

Gonna cost .. Think its £5K for the F150 although it has a symetrical dash.

Having rhd is a bit of a cachet over here to identify it as JDM spec. I personally was ecstatic when I found my LHD Saff. It's the only one in Canada and I can go to Burger King drive through without hassle.

Plus there is some talk about cracking down on RHD cars since they over represent themselves in crashes according to latest data. Higher insurance avoided perhaps.

With my LHD saff I'm sure people would think it's just some old Ford Tempo.

it's the Mustang for me.

Just maybe to comfort you.. over here in Malta, only the boring cars are imported cause the market is so too small [ aprox 400 000 population ] to stock interesting cars. For example there aren't official sellers, for Ferrari, Lambo, Lotus, Bentley, Aston martin...

I for example had to buy my Lotus from the UK and after 6 months i relised that I will have problems when it comes to servicing, parts, or maintenance :'(
