Default Is it possible to unlock an iPhone?

As above is it possible to unlock one and still use itunes to download etc? Will surfing the internet be a problem? Also any other disadvantages. In short one of our clients wants to buy an iPhone from Singapore and bring it back over here, unlock it and expect everything to work? Would this be possible to do?

Cheers
Chris

Yes its possible. Firstly you'll have to jailbreak it using redsn0w or something similar and then unlock it. There have been a few different issues with Itunes, but there is always away around it.

Yes, you can request it be unlocked by O2, there is an online form on their website.

You can use it on any network then, but it will still be tied to to APP store, however the usual APP Store rules and payments apply.

Jailbreaking's not as cool as some people think. Ask anyone who's done it if they've had Rick Astley pop up.

Beg to differ:

Besides, start fiddling with the firmware and you're buggered if it breaks under warranty.

And just cos you haven't had a problem, it means you're lucky - it doesn't mean it's a good idea.

chris,

tell your man to buy a factory unlocked one from here for ab out Ł800 quid, its unlocked from apple and fully warrantied and wont cause problems when apple release new updates, ot if you have any italian contqcts, buy one from italy, they come unlocked standard there as local law prohibits phone locking by providers, be alot cheaper aswell

Thanks chaps, sounds like if they buy it for him it could be more hassle than its worth. Fook knows why they are bothering, he's the CEO of a large company so i'd advise them to tell him to spot being a tight arse and get a contract phone!!!!!
