Default Drove my uncles RS4 and brothers M3 today...

Lesson Learned. RWD is just Awesome.

I have always been for 4wd but today i have changed my mind. My uncle was down from Leeds today and kindly let me put a few miles on his Audi RS4 and i was loving it until my brother came to the house to see him....

After a year of nagging my brother to let me drive his M3 he gave in when i was saying the RS4 was lovely and then the words i was waiting for 'If you like that, drive the M'. Took it on the A40 toward Uxbridge and it just felt so much better. 4wd in the RS4 for me just felt lazy but the RWD M felt alive. The steering was just beautiful and light where as on the RS4 it was heavy.

The kick of RWD was great, i didn't give the M much throttle but with the Power button engaged, it was just so sensitive and just put a smile on my face.

So after years of 4wd love, i have become a RWD fan and i want more of it in my life.... lol

These are the two cars i compared.
Bearing in mind that i was looking for a car i could drive around the country to and from Track days.

The RS4 is an absolutely monster, bucket loads of power, really comfortable and has an amazing sound.

The M3 is also not shy on the power front quite comfy and sounds amazing.

After driving both i decided on the M3 as it was a more involved drive compared to the Audi's laid back style. You have to work to make the M3 quick.

Bought an 04 plate CSL in March and have loved every minute of it to date.

4wd is just floor it and go to some degree, rwd is more fun and more involving.
Had the traction light flashing in 4th gear yesterday in the rain coming off a roundabout without a lot of throttle; deserves respect rwd

iv just got myself a bmw318is coupe 140bhp 1.9 model. nothing really that fast...but talk about learning to drive again!!! its COMPLETELY different with rearwheel drive especially in the wet!

im worried about giving it bean around corners because of the back end stepping out as it has no TC.

had a couple of hairy moments on roundabouts...all be it i put myself in them situations and one in a straight line (60mph change into third and fish tailing up the road)

requires a hell of a lot of respect, am certainly taking my time alot more than with FWD

I take it that 60 mph fish tail must have been very deep water!!
rwd is the only way, I just believe it teaches those that don't kill themselves to drive better.

it was just a wet road (what was left from the rain, nothing bad) under hard exceleration going past a lorry.. full throttle 2nd to full throttle 3rd and the back end got a bit excited.

other than experamenting its slowed me down alot in most cases

the poster was saying that he likes the way a rwd car drives better than a 4wd car
not that he would have a bmw because he wants to be different

Lucky boy getting to drive them! Driven a E36 M3 before didn't have the chance to boot it or anything but throttle response on that was very eager and was very eager to pick up the revs from anywhere in the range. Can see why its easy to make a mess in one with their throttle response can only imagine new V8 would be more lairy

i've had both,still got the rs4

i do prefer the rs4 to the m3,the m3 defo was that little bit quicker tho.

i love the way the audi drives, and think it looks better than the m3 also plus you cant beat the interior in the rs4,the m3 just looks like any other 3 series inside

On the road RWD feels better. The 4WD just felt lazy and the steering was just heavy and not as sharp. The M was doing what most cars should do, RWD and a steering with a great feeling. The steering alone in the M3 was enough to win me over

that's more to do with the way audis drive (which tend to be nose heavy with a very forward engine installation) compared to bmw's rather than 4x4 vs rwd

Spot on - my dads audi 90 had the engine almost hanging out lol - lovely car though and the 5 pot sounds SWEET.

I'd take the Audi all day. I test drove a C5 RS6 once and that thing was LOVELY to drive, nice and comfy but yet angry at the sametime.

Presume you mean an E9x M3 ? Nice car for sure. Lovely on track, especially at the Ring, sublime. Not half as quick as the similarly piced datsun GTR

I've had RWD cars ever since my E30 325i. Can't beat the feeling of a car wiggiling around your hips - keeps you on your toes too.

I'd still take the M3/RS4 over a GTR. Mainly because the GTR will spend more time in a Nissan garage having problems sorted left right and center. My cousin is a tech for Nissan in Slough and he's been dishing out the dirt on how unreliable GTRs and Z's are.

The first month of release in the UK had his garage 6 in one week all with transmission problems. Mill Hill Nissan Garage had 11 in at one point with one need a Engine rebuild at 400mile.

Knacker the Box and your looking at 10k+VAT and then the labor. In most cases the Warranty doesn't cover the box. And if you use the launch control (even with the new software) Nissan will still fuck you in the ass to get it repaired.

Faster? Yes, Cheaper? Like fuck it is!!!

Different league of cars imo (GTR and RS4/M3).

Would take E90 M3 over Nissan GTR personally.
