a bit broke on our citroen picasso seat and it just fell back.
i took the seat apart and its full of weld, and thats strait from citroen, so i cant see it being illigal.

i put leather scorpio cosworth seats im my smiley face transit the same methord you have used, and that passed it MOT no problem.

Thought it was bollocks, but best to check. The original subframes were all welded from factory to start with.I do like the seats, better than the standard sh*t.

AFAIK the wording for sva/iva/mot is that seat mountings must be 'bolted securely directly to structural chassis members', paraphrased

the whole modifying thing in this country is too easy and potentially dangerous. not saying that this particular seat installation is, but it would be easy for someone to birdshit weld them up and then crash and have the seat fly out and go through the windscreen.

we should have something like in germany where every modified component has to be prven to be safe and reliable

its not illegal at all who ever told you this needs to get out more, ive made loads of custom sub frames for mates and customers, as long as the welding is strong and would hold out in a crash then dont worry

i have repaired recaro chairs that fat bastards have broke the side bolsters clean off.

i welded it back as it was welded by recaro in the firstplace,so regards the title no its not illegal to weld seats as thats how lots of seats are made anyhow but i do think in a proper bang if a homemade seat runner fooks up and causes serious injury and someone notices it you could potentially be in shit.

the above install looks nice btw,if the connect is a good un i would reconolise the recaros to make it really look good.

No it's not illegal, even to do it badly so it breaks.
Roosie had some muppet weld in a seat on his 3 door, it broke the 1st time he sat on it, I know he's a fat c**t but even so!!
The person had welded a "tube" under each corner to increase massively the pressure on the smaller area, and welded so hot it went almost through the metal, so sitting on it went through the floor, and he's a very expensive so called professional, mind you he did also leave the car with 4 fuel leaks, seriously bad pissing fuel everywhere leaks not dribbles, and when we pushed the car the compression strut FELL OFF wtf!!
I've welded seats before, some are very prone to breaking, my renault 11 seats always broke, they had more weld than metal, fix one part and it just broke somewhere else .
