Default rover 220 turbo coupe

i have one of these sitting in my garden, havent used it for nearly a year now.
i ve decided i'm going to do somthing with it
i want to mod it
i know not many people like these cars but i bought it for silly money and to just have bit of fun, as you guys probly know they have 200bhp and are fairly nippy little cars. just shite at stopping!
i am writing this on here as i cant find any decent info on the net about tuning them of buying aftermarket parts for them
can anyone help?
have any of you lot got any experiance with them?

cheers

its been years since i had one but few things i can remember (vaguley) areKlinger gasket cures the oil leaks from the head, standard pistons are weak and limit the boost, iirc you can only up to 16psi standard, maybe not even that. Otherwise good motors, intercooler is tiny so upgrade asap, turbos are good on em (the incorporated dump valves fail due to being old mainly)

I had the 800 2.0 turbo and it was a good motor and liked to pick it's skirt up and dance lol!!

I also had a tomcat coupe, I had it standard, but the lads who bought it off me lowered it and put 17" on it along with a decent exhaust, it felt like a different car and looked nice for what it was.

they are cool cars, i used to have one years ago, the only problem i had(although quite a major one) was the gearbox. The drivers side drive shaft would just fall out as one of the planet gears had cracked during an outing to santa pod !! where i did manage to run a 15:9 at 98 mph which isn't bad for a standard car

i've got one too,
sounds like your going to track day it.
have the box rebulit with steel caged bearings available @140 a set and use the lsd from a late 620ti or 820vittesse. the B type Torsen. lots of info on Rovertech.

the std box will fail under abuse the bearings break up and then they throw a driveshaft out. or the diff fails, if your good at 110 on the M1 like mine did....thats the only thing in five years thats failed.
originally i did by it as a non runner i had a klinger fitted and a 2nd hand turbo and its been good as gold since after an inital problem down to the engine builder.

*after reading through its important over 12psi on a t25 it will go bang fitting a bleed valve is a sure way to break it.
pistons are good for intended power but no good for tuning. im not sure if it will last on that t34!

nissan pulsar t28 fits with a bit of fiddelling and gives good results

but the main thing is as above get over to Rovertech.net as that is a v good resource for parts and advice

i loved these when i was 17, mostly as my first car was a rover 216 of the same shape. i remember i was really jealous of a guy at uni that had a 220 hatch turbo, went really well.

would i have one now, would i f*ck

Shame that they run gay MEMS ecu that you can't do much with, sort some managment out on it and get some pistons and rods and the sky is the limit just look at Andy Nichols car, epic.

This

Quality rover money saving at its best by using the plastic gearbox bearings.

Mine fell out very quickly.
