Servicing is reasonable, fuel consumption is bad i never seen any better than 23 MPG, other than going through front tyres quickly never had a problem with mine although the Ford paint job is shite

Had mine a week now and i fucking love it to bits! Drive it sensibly and it will do over 300 miles to a tank of fuel, which is what my old st170 used to do. Start caning it though and it don't half drink, i did half a tank in 100 miles
Its really comfy, and just a bloody nice place to be. A friend of mine has had a couple of comfy cruisers and a stripped out 240bhp clio williams, and he says that the st is the best of both words, goes like shit off a shovel when you want it to, and cruises in comfort and reasonable economy too.
Get one bought, you won't regret it!

I've had mine nearly a year now and it's great car
As said above it's comfortable and once remapped they go really well. Mine is on a dreamscience remap and at the moment I'm averaging 27mpg, on a run you can see well over 30mpg and I've seen an average of nearly 40mpg on one journey! If you are super sensible you can get as much as 400 miles out of a tank, it was a bloody boring test though
Servicing isn't expensive, I just had my 37,500 one done and it cost me £80 in parts and £50 in labour for rapidfit to do it
Build quality seems to be good, you hear of the odd creak or rattle inside but it's great by Ford's standards.
If you get one I would recommend changing to the Eibach springs, it makes the car handle and feel like it should have done from the factory

Best car I've owned and for the longest , and I'm still happy after 2 years. Normally I've changed them after 1 year max.
Get around 30mpg out of mine if kept to legal speeds.
Gearbox did get replaced on mine at 13k however, the remap may have not helped there though.

Had my 60000 miles 05 model ST-3 for 3 years now and its only needed a new alternator a few months ago.
Yes its a bit bad on fuel but everyone forgets ITS A PERFORMANCE CAR
Mine with a basic remap to 270 bhp does 25 to 32 MPG !
Buy a a second hand one as they are cheap money with good build quality.
Dont get an orange one as everyone thinks its the rozzers at night especially if you have the xenon headlights. !

I get between 20 to 24 mpg around town, thats about 210 miles + on a full tank. I do like in a hilly area and drive through town all the time, so stop start. Serviceing isnt any different to a normal Focus. Brake fluid should be changed on 2nd service @ 2 years or 25k miles.
Ive had mine 6 months and have loved all 2k miles ive done.
They seem to be dearer now. I paid £12k (£10.9k cash + £1.1k part ex on dads TDCi Focus) for my 2007 ST3 6 months ago with 22k miles.

I've had mine just over two years.
Had clutch pedal stuck down, hydraulic system i think, was fixed under warranty.
Oil separator diaphragm split needed complete new unit.
Alternator died last month.
Apart from that i love the car. Only done 38k miles but all above common faults. I must have been unlucky having a full set lol.

So I did see that on here. Is the Turbo near the Alternator? Does this happen on all ST's or just Modded ones?

I did look at the dreamscience, unfortunately now you can only buy it with a touch screen interface thing which has bumped the price way up. Have you had any experience with bluefin?
Bluefin is £391 compared to dreamscience's £595, quite a difference for a load of shite I will never use!!!

You are wrong, Golf GTi's are about 197 / 200bhp ish and 230bhp with the edition30. Anyway, I was going performance / price size wise.

MK5 Golf GTi is the 2.0T engine, not the older 1.8T that was used in Leon, TT, A3, Golf Turbo etc... and IIRC you can get 250-260ish from a basic re-map on the standard 2.0T engines. The Edition30 models will map to just over 300bhp for a few hundred quid without any further mods.
The number of cylinders is irrelevant IMO, these cars are the same class, Golf/Focus are in direct competition when someone is looking for a car of that size... same way that a Fiesta/Corsa or Mondeo/Passat are in the same class and hence in competition with each other.
Cheers,
Grant
