I've just got my suuround system from Argos, got it home, plugeed it in and.....fuck all

Anyway I'm taking the processor back 2moro but in the mean time I'd like to put the speakers where I want them but theres no feckin instructions in there!

Does anyone know what position they should be in? I've got:

Surround left
Surround right
Main right
Main left
Centre

I know where the centre goes lol

Surround left - behind you, to the left
Surround right - behind you, to the right
Main right - in front of you, to the right
Main left - in front of you, to the left
Centre - in front of you, centred



You can then usually set the required distances of the speaker on the processor unit which will setup the sound delay to give a better field of sound.

also depends how many settings you got on your amp(home theater system)as to wether you have em high in the corners at the back or at ear level ,can also be set for the rear speakers to the side if your system allows it as this can sometimes be benificial if doors windows ect are in the way

you want to try and sit in the middle of all four speakers which usually is hard cos people always have their sofas against the wall. so the rear speakers always end up on the wall. the rear speakers should be placed at head height when you are seated not up in the air to get the bes sound effects.

DOh, yep - Some of what I put depends on the shape of your room I guess, lol. But everyone's tase in sound is different, so some experimenting may be required.

The sound delay compensates for speaker positioning though (referring to the sitting in 'the centre of the speakers').

when testing it you want to be sat where you would be when watching and NOT in the middle of the room,your remote máy have a test signal button,you sit where you want and the test tone will sound in each speaker and it can be adjusted as and when what make is it dude

as per Bill, you may/no doubt will need to delay the rears, the reason being: imagine a circle, and a dot in the middle of the circle. The dot is your seating position, and so if the centre speaker was placed at the 12 o clock position, the front left at 10, the front right at 2, the rear/surround left at 8 and the rear/surround right at 4, then the sound from all the speakers would reach you in the middle at the same time. In reality though, the front speakers sit on the same horizontal plain as the centre speaker and so are further away from you than the centre speaker, and you usually sit right next to the wall where the rear speakers are hung, hence the DVD player can delay the rear speakers by a matter of milliseconds to emit sound at the same time as the sound from the front speakers reaches you, and the amount of milliseconds you set depends on distance, of which the DVD player guide should tell you this ie so 5m away = 14 milliseconds etc

Also, place the sub behind the sofa that you sit on, some say install the sub by the TV, this allows you to hear the bass. I say install it behind you, you dont just hear it, you -feel- it much better and more cinema like!
