Surround left - behind you, to the left
Surround right - behind you, to the right
Main right - in front of you, to the right
Main left - in front of you, to the left
Centre - in front of you, centred



You can then usually set the required distances of the speaker on the processor unit which will setup the sound delay to give a better field of sound.
