This place is awesome, have been twice and has exceeded expectations both times. Not cheap though.

Is excellent for a special occasion.

the witchery is a really good,
http://www.thewitchery.com/
and its also in a really good location next to the castle but sometimes think thats all your paying for...

or if you like steak or seafood my dads mates place is really nice
http://musselandsteakbar.com/
not as fancy or upmarket as the witchery or number one but the food really is brilliantive been with lots of folk lots of times and never heard a bad word said about it,and its 2 mins away from the witchery in the grassmarket area

If you like curry there is a decent place called Omar Khayyam www.omar-khayyam.co.uk

We were there a few weeks back and loved the South Indain Chilli dish. My wife loved the Korma too.

ive never heard of it tbh,, might still be good tho,
khushis is probably one of the best indians to go to in edinburgh,
youd have to take your own drink tho,
infact i just had a look at the website and i know where it is but ive never heard of anyone going,
im sure it will be nice tho

2nd vote for the witchery.

Its top bollocks.
Very atmospheric, very nice location and proper nice meal. The misses and I spent a whole evening in there - waited on hand and foot and finished off with our choce of whiskeys.
Best meal we've had anywhere.

If you've got a bit of cash saved you can also stay in one of their themed rooms.Oak panelling, velvet, candles etc...
