Default Computer techies, i need your help

I am having a bit of a problem with my lap top, it keeps freezing up and the screen goes blank, the hard drive light flashes for a bit and sometimes then goes on to standby, other times if you leave it 5-10 minutes it comes back, any ideas?

also I am not sure if this is a recent thing or not, but the little desktop monitor that displays the CPU usage etc is showing that the RAM is sitting at 61% even when not doing anything, is this normal?

spec of the computer is

Toshiba Equium A200-196
intel T2080 @1.73GHz 1.73GHz
1Gb RAM

Sounds like it could be the hard drive.

Have you noticed it taking longer to do boot into windows and do things? and does it make any more noise than normal, i.e clicking noise.?

Have it plugged in to the mains and try running a memtest program, ram might be fecked.

If its locking up/blue screening ram is my first guess, maybe its overheating?

Maybe your power saving options are wrong? Try right clicking on desktop, properties, screen saver, power saving options. Make sure it isnt set to turn your hard drive or screen off or something like that.

Was going to say overheating aswell, but being a laptop im sure it would be fairly obvious if you got a burnt leg
