My African bubble has burst (possible new world record too???)
As i have said i've been having a great time in the Congo and it has exceeded my expectations so far. I kept saying that long may it continue and hoped the bubble wouldn't burst.
Well there was a loud pop on saturday night.
Some of you may have read my thread about having a shite sat with a very bad headache. Well as the night went on i felt like i was -20 degrees, shivvering etc. Then the sore neck, fucked eye sight, loss of hearing, inability to walk, delerium, sickness.
I got rushed to hospital and byt this time things were pretty bad. My temp was 39.5 deg and i was cooking up. Wanna guess what i have?!?
Fucking MALARIA.
I've just had the worst 40hours of my life cooped up in the same fucking bed, unable to move and hooked up to an introvenus drip. The doctors and nurses only spoke french which was a barrel of fucking laughs. I reckon i've lost a stone, my 4 year old is probably stronger than me right now and i still feel like shit. I cant hear properly due to the medicine.
Home though and have to rest.
Worst part is there is no cure.
Ah well the fucking mozzys can bite all they like now the cunts.
Oh and the world record part i hear you ask?!?!?!
Incubation period from bite to malaria is 10 days. I got the malaria on my 11th day here. Winner me?
btw i was on all the proper anti malaria drugs and using repellant. worthless
cheer me up...

Yeah it will come back to haunt you for years to come, my grandfather had Malaria. You'll know the signs by now I guess, because you may find when you relapse in the UK, the hospitals don't know what's wrong and won't take your word for it when you are insisting it's fucking malaria.

I wouldn't worry THAT much TBH, my grandfather had it too, it didn't bother him at all.

Aye sounds like plan, I'll speak to her and see if we've got anything else on that weekend but I'm sure we're free, just let us know the details. Things haven't been too good lately to be honest, haven't been on here much lately until today, don't want to say on here though as it's still pretty raw.

Sure They'll find a cure for it in the near future so I wouldn't worry too much, and if your lucky:
Is There a Malaria Cure?
Malaria is a leading cause of death and disease worldwide, especially in developing countries. It is estimated that each year 300 to 500 million cases of malaria occur, and more than 1 million people die of malaria annually. Although it can be a fatal disease, illness and death from malaria are largely preventable. In fact, for patients diagnosed early, a cure is possible because one of several medicines that kill the malaria parasite (Plasmodium) can be prescribed.
Curing Malaria With Medications
Specific medications that can be used as a cure include:

Shit dont sound good. Are you in a built up area or in the middle of no where? Reason I ask is I'm flying to Botswana next week and been advised that I dont need to take Malaria tablets? I'm in the capital (Gaborone) but not sure what to do!!

Ive just spoken to our doctors again and they advise again that I dont need to take anything? I did mention about your situation and she said that the Congo climate is a lot different, Botswana is a dryer heat (apparantly)?. Fook knows what to do now.

So you normally that naiive then mate? Nothing prevents it, the same as Swine Flu. But anti's have enough agents that combat the development of some diseases in your body, so think yourself lucky. Because resistance to anti's like chloroquine is more and more common through Africa, doubt they'll class a tourist as elligable for anything more advanced.

Been there chop and it is not nice. I worked for nearly 10 years in Africa and it finally got me.... I got malaria (Plasmodium falciparum) and i was taking Malarone so it is not fool proof. The mother of all headaches and the pain inside the bones (fuck it was sore) and finally passed out. Local doc said i did not have Malaria but ended out getting treated by the Chinese embassy.
Hope you are getting better but do go back to the UK Docs and get a good MOT done including the liver
