Haye has a good chance of winning, although this guy looks like he could lift him up and have him for a snack. Although size isn't everything-esp in boxing.

The British fighter is eight stone lighter and nine inches smaller than the 7ft 2in Russian champion.
Valuev has yet to be knocked down in his 16-year professional career and has lost once in 50 fights.
"Valuev's known as The Beast From The East and there's a reason he's got that nickname - he's a big, ugly, sweaty and hairy man from the Eastern Bloc," Haye added.
"I can't wait to step into the ring and prove that size doesn't matter. Mark my words: I will be the first man to knock Nikolai Valuev out."

I currently am doing boxing training, spar with my trainer but yet to have a proper fight in a ring. We were talking about this a few days ago. How do you defeat the big guys? Speed, intelligence, quick thinking, isolating areas, trying to find a weak spot, knowing what you opponent likes to do and wait for him to commit himself. With some as big as Valuev, it is going to be hard as his reach is longer (my trainer is about 6ft 2" I'm 5ft 8" and he has easily 6-7" reach on me- believe me this is EXTREMELY difficult to get around knowing you are into his range when you can't even get a punch in and you basically move yourself into his range more so you have enough room to get a punch in) and not just that the fact that he's a much taller man means throwing the punches upwards- big test of shoulder strength and endurance. Big guys also tend to take hits "better" too so it is going to take a lot to knock the big man down.

In saying that, Valuev being so tall means he has to keep his range and stance in check for throwing punches at the "smaller" Haye. Should be a good fight. In this case, unless Haye is really on his game, size does matter and I'm saying Valuev.

if he can keep him distance, the freak is going to win

if the smaller guy can get inside the reach so that the power doesn't fulfil it's potential with the punch, then the freaks going down

if hayes can last into the later rounds and keep up a strong pace, if he doesn't win a ko it'll go on points, Valuev beat Evander Holyfield, aged 46! on points (barely) which should of gone to Holyfield as all valuev done was walk round the ring following. holyfields a simular size to hayes but hayes being half the age of holyfield i can see him causing alot of problems.

i doubt very much it'll be a "great" fight as valuev just isn't a good fighter but hayes should walk it imo.

If you take a look back at boxing history there was a similar fight back in the day between the man, the legend Killer Jack Dempsey and some huge fella called Luis Firpo

it was a david and goliath storey as Firpo was huge and made dempsey look like a feather weight

Dempsey came through knocking out the guy to win so come Mr Haye do the business

i think he's just comparing proportions rather than size, the beast is around 30% larger than haye so in that respect he's going to have a bit of clout about him when he swings

but it's all about size and, when you get THAT big, you become slow and ponderous and your body has to consume vast quantities of fuel to simply shift so much mass so he's probably banking on an early win

on the other hand, haye is a big bloke, but he's not huge in the sense that he's massivly muscular or anything other than just a bit of a big bloke in the normal world, he doens't stick out

i don't think that you could compare a 5 foot tall boxer with a 6 foot boxer vs a 6 foot boxer and a 7 foot boxer simply because the bigger you are, the slower you are, but that's not to say that he won't get lucky and connect first punch out of the blocks and send haye into the 5th row of seats

and after seeing him on question of sport yesterday, haye is a nice guy, and not at all arrogant like a lot of boxers are nowadays, and, as a brit, i wish him the best of luck

gorrila monsoon: "the bigger they are, the harder they fall"
jesse venture: "but they don't fall that often"

yep have seen it billed to show in quite a few local places,

and its on at that time to start, so not to clash with X-factor was in the news this week afair bit.

David Haye is threatening to stage a sit-in on Saturday because he doesn't want to be KO'd by the X-Factor.

German TV want to bring the ringtime forward an hour to 9.30pm and Haye is more worried about going head-to-head with Jedward than Beast from the East Nikolai Valuev.

Part of Haye's purse is being paid by Sky and they could lose thousands of pay-per-view customers if the fight clashes with ITV's hugely-popular X-Factor.

Haye is adamant the world heavyweight title showdown will not start before 10.30pm and will refuse to leave his dressing room before then.

His manager and trainer Adam Booth said: "Someone showed me something sent out by German broadcasters, which said that David's fight starts around 9.30 UK time. That's not the case.

"We have a contract and one of the things in the contract says that David's ring walk starts any time between 10 and 10.30 British time. So we expect him to walk out just after 10pm.

"What can they do? If they try and get us out early, we'll just say no. If they want to turn the cameras off, let them turn them off. They're not going to cancel the big event for the sake of 10 minutes.

"We have a contract. We have honoured that contract and we expect them to do the same."
