Some of you will remember in Apirl last year, our first daughter was stillborn at 40+2wks.
It truely distroyed our lives and to this day, it still greatly affects us......EVERYDAY.
This is the thread thatI created.
https://passionford.com/forum/genera...baby-loss.html
We are now heavily involved with the charity SANDS, whom have givien us great support and we've met other parents whom unfortunatly have had their lives destroyed by losing thier baby. Only 2 weeks ago, a chap that I work closely with, lost thier baby.
One of the actions that we're trying to do is get the Goverenment to fund studies into Stillbirths.
We had a day at Parliment presenting to UK MP's in Nov 08. A year later we're now trying to get the Scottish Goverenment to act upon it.
-------
Calling on the Scottish Parliament to urge the Scottish Government to
1 note and act upon the Sands Saving Babies Lives Report 2009 in support of its Why 17? campaign
2 develop a strategy for reducing levels of stillbirths and neonatal deaths
3 fund further research to improve understanding of why stillbirths and neonatal deaths happen
4 develop gold standard antenatal care provision in all NHS boards; and (5) work with Sands to improve public awareness of
these issues.
--------.hmmessage P{margin:0px;padding:0px;}body.hmmessage{font-size:10pt;font-family:Verdana;}
One of the things that you could do to help is fill in the below petition (closes on 30th Oct). It only takes 30secs to complete and in doing so will help perswade the goverenment to do something more to help stop 17 babies dying EVERYDAY
http://epetitions.scottish.parliament.uk/view_petition.asp?PetitionID=342
Thanks for reading and help.
Robin.

Signed, although I dont know if my signature counts for much being from england when its a scottish parliement thing.
Hope you are both coping ok, I dont know how you even begin to put your lives back together after something like that.
With what should have been Murron's second Xmas approaching it must be even harder. I dare say that this time of year is going to be a massive cause of sadness for you forever now

Done.
With two grown kids I can't imagine the kind of loss you have suffered.
I've also sent the details to my local MSP who is in the Scottish Government and asked him for his support too.

Thanks all for your help. It's really thoughtful of you all to spend the time to do this.
We both found to awful to know that on average in the UK, that 17 babies are stillborn EVERYDAY, but yet, it's such a taboo subject that is NEVER mentioned by the midwife. They make you beleive that once your past the 20wk scan, that everything will be fine........................
Chip. Thanks for your comments. England, France, Sweden, it doesn't matter. It will show them how far afield this affects everyone.
How have we got on since? Well, it's been one battle after another. We've both totally changed. I feel that I take offence so much more, esp when it comes to people joking about death and taking the mickey out of 'not normal' people. My wife requires a lot more care, even after a year and a half. I still have a tear in my eye everyday, as I often think about her up with her 3 grannies in heaven, whilst sitting in traffic on my way home from work.
Yes, Murron's 2nd Xmas is coming. We certainly know that.![Sad](https://passionford.com/forum/images/smilies/icon_sad.gif)
It will also be her little sister Iona's first one, so that will take some of the pain away, but I know that we'll just be thinking that last year should have been Murron's and she should be doing what Iona is going to be doing now.
Just seeing Iona grow up puts some sadness in the air.
We are just thankful that she is a very happy baby, as that makes us smile.

I'm not going to claim any credit for this but I just received an email from the Scottish Government advising that:
SANDS ... it was announced by Shona Robison the Minister for Public Health today that the Scottish Government is to fund the charity SANDS with up to £20,000 to work with health boards on improving support for mothers and fathers after their baby is stillborn. The money will be used to ensure maternity staff are given specialist education and training, so that they are better equipped to support bereaved parents.
Discussions are expected to begin shortly between the Scottish Government, SANDS and health boards to identify priorities for action.
There is also a reception this evening in the Scottish Parliament to launch SANDS WHY 17 Campaign and Keith is hoping to be able to attend at some point during the evening.
See folks, some politicians DO listen! It's only a small amount but I'll bet it is a significant amount for SANDS and I hope it is something that can be built on.

Thanks for posting that Iain. ![Grin](https://passionford.com/forum/images/smilies/icon_smile.gif)
The trouble with that £20K, it's for support AFTER thier babies have died. We want money to be put towards research into stopping thier deaths in the first place!
It's a start yes, but really not enough, hence why we helped launch the Why17? event last year.
We just got sent this link to the video footage from the discussions yesterday.
http://news.bbc.co.uk/democracylive/...89.stm?t=5327s
To us, it's a good listen, but I guess for the majority of you lot, you won't understand any of it, being just another charity after money.

I never saw this thread and have just noticed that the closing date on this was the 30th October
I would have had no hesitation in signing this for you. I know people who have miscarriages, and helped to support them through this, but to get that far through the pregnancy and to then go through what you have, i can't even begin to think what you have/are going through.....sorry for your loss....
and sorry i didn't notice this thread sooner...well done to everyone who did see the thread and did put their vote in!
