Helps economy by allowing the car to fuel accurately during light use.

Makes NO difference to performance though as its not active when you are on boost.

Surely you could get the same result by spending more time during the mapping of the off boost??

You could, but bare in mind that things change over time, and when you are talking small throttle angles etc it can be even more noticeable.
