Default st170 fuel consumption

quite shocked how when driven in grandad mode it can be a pretty economical car, I drove from bristol to torquay last week, 106 miles and averaging 70-80 all along the m5 and used just short of half a tank

today done exactly the same trip but in less of a hurry, ie sat behind an arctic all the way and its only just dropped slightly from the full mark. quite surprised....may I add i dont make a habit of driving at 56 mph on the motorway but i left early through boredom and thought stuff it if i stay behind the lorry i am not actually slowing anyone else down.

anyway whats other 170 owners views as normally this one is absolute crap on fuel, ie 240 miles to a tank urban, my last one managed about 280 no probs but this one is a bit juicier for some reason (maybe i just have a heavier right foot now)

220 to a tank, fook me what you doing to it?

Mixed driving, occasional bit of foot down action and I get 320 miles from a tank, have seen this down to 280 before though! Drive like a grandad and I will get 350-360, which works out at about 32mpg.

I used to budget/plan around doing 280 miles to a tank - if i was doing pure motorway cruising it was more like 320ish.

Driving like a nob i could get it down to under 200miles.

With my supercharged one around Oulton Park it was doing around 5mpg!

I'm averaging 250 to 320 miles from full tank, depending on how excited my right foot is!

The most I ever got out of mine was 420miles from a tank - that was a motorway-only journey to Edinburgh and back. But typically it was 280-320...

Useless thread, unless someone measures distance against fuel used, ie brim tank, drive, brim tank, then nobody knows what MPG they're doing.

i bet the ST170/FRS/ST225 is not much difference mpg wise when driving without foot to the floor- quite good isn't it

My mrs can make it run on fresh air!!! I only have to start it and its used quarter of a tank I've had it as low as 180 miles from petrol light to petrol light! Generally though mixed driving sees it at about 230ish average to a tank. I gave up checking once i discovered a regular 30mpg was a pipedream! I tried to keep the revs low etc and drove like an old woman and it made so little difference i gave up! My mrs must be much smoother thats all, i love it that she saves all that fuel for me to rag the arse off it on the long way home at midnight!! The earache i get when she see's ive caned 1/4 tank on a 16 mile round trip!

The best i've had is about 340 on a run to a tank.

they seem to take ages to drop the first 1/4 of a tank then fly from 3/4 to 1/4 then slows again. i dont trust the accuracy to be honest though

Low power running has shown MASSIVE gains in effeciency on these engines, compared with same power level on other engines.
