Is it a must ?
Depends what you are doing with the car, wouldn't bother for road use, but would for track, if dedicated track car, as opposed to main road car also used on track.

I have seam welded a few xr2s, it does make a big difference to a track car

here is a pic of a mk1 gravel spec rally car we are building
also about to do a mk2 the same

notice the plates on the chassis legs, they are a must as there is a huge amount of flex
in them

hi
defo a must on track/competion car
another form of seamwelding is drilling out every 3rd spot weld and plug welding back up,this can be done all in the window appitures and body seams-as with this process it doesnt crack around the weld as it does with normal seam welding-this process was used by gorden spooner engeneering building the works cosworths.

wen a shells been seam welded/ doesnt mean a continues weld this will be to stiff- seam welding stich welding same idea.
seam welding is usually a 15mm length of weld between spots with 25mm gap and so on around all seams this is the most common form somtimes known as slug welding-can crack around edges of the mig weld over time.generaly ok do prefer the plug welding form instead. cheers jim

Mines been done mate, runs about 260 bhp and IMO is a must, i've heard of people saying it aint needed and then moaning that there front end is cracking etc. If your using it on a track then weld it up.
