Default 318ti E36

Any good? Whats the general opinion??
Seen a cheap 98R compact with 107k on the clock. 2 owners and an 'Mtech' body kit.
I seem to be forever spending on my mr2, and im just considering buying something cheap but nice that wont give me any hassel.
Really love mine but i want to save some money so I can get one of the newest mk2 turbo's.

Hmmmm, im unsure! I might just be bored-i tend to change my car when im bored for any length of time! And if i get rid of the mr2 just for something to do i WILL regret it im sure!!!

They're good cars! That'll have the 140bhp engine, rear wheel drive, so a nice little economical package! Do it!

No it doesn't. It makes them handle like a pig.

They also look hideous and the interior and general quality is crap.

I want something newer than an E30. Whatever axel is on the compact, its not going to be any harder to handle than my mr2 can be in the wet!
I just want something that will be hassel free for a year or two, but its got to be a bit 'different' and fun.

Fuzzy ours was nothing special at all. Infact it felt terrible in the rain, my rev3 mr2 turbo was easier to drive in the rain.
Ellie what about a 106 Gti? cheap and nippy

I want something that isnt gonna cost me every couple of months so that in a year or 2 i can be buying an mr2 turbo on around a V plate, or even a Lotus Espirit.

the compact uses the same diff as the old e30 and Z3 i think, the issue i think is the weight distribution compared to a coupe or saloon with the longer boot.

Either drive nice but as said not that fast or economical, still handle better than the mr2 so will feel great

id guess an open diff rather than an lsd? weight distribution could be a problem right enough, the old bmw saloons were 50/50 over each axle.
im still not sure about the same diff being used as on an e30 although i could be wrong.

The compact uses a E36 rear axle, as the M3 E36 rear end bolts straight up.

oy cheeky chops, i saw a v reg 318 4dr in tidy shiny bright red with nice original bmw alloys,i can't say i looked at the miles and it did Ł1400, it was at clwyd car auctions on saturday just gone, there was some tidy nice clean main agent cars there.

regards the bmw compact it all depends on how much its up at.

i also saw a 03 silver saxo diesel 5dr done 86k miles in silver with a dented rear qtr and a slight crease on the bottom of the passenger door the rest looked mint,it only did Ł900 quid and thats cheep for a 03 diesel car.

The compact deffo has an e30 rear end
I bought a 318ti for my old dear a few weeks back and although interior build quality isn't what I would expect from BMW it's not not a bad car . This one had a chip fitted by chipped uk and tbh you can't call it slow.
Its a shame someone stuffed it up the rear a couple of weeks ago .

I think the compact is wronng in so many ways if your going to get a bmw why would you only buy half of one lol, i would just save a bit more and get a e46 320 d there a bit better

Ive realised that the 325tds is a saloon though now.

I personally like the size of the compact. If i saw a nice coupe id have one, but i really dont need or want a big saloon.
I think id rather just have an E36 for now. Something newer than what ive got now, but what i can afford to go out and buy, this weekend, for example. Ive no desire to have an E46, Id rather buy a newer mr2 turbo.

you would look great going shopping in a diesel saxo,a pink powered by fairies sticker on the boot and a pink fluffy steering wheel cover .

i had a better look at the bmw tonight its done 110k miles and its a 316 4dr v reg.
i'd say 1300 quid for a r reg bm compact with them miles isn't cheep,is it at a garage with a warrenty chucked in or private ??
i have seen another mr2 in your colour with alloys in my area but couldn't see the driver or reg as it was going so fast

I was probably me then!!!! Where did you see it? Ive not seen another in my colour.....except for at Silverstone when there were 224 mr2's on the track!

Me, shopping in a saxo with fucking stupid fairy stickers on it????? Might sound like a snob and i dont care but id rather chop me feet off and walk!!!!!!

Reckon thats expensive for the BM then???
Its at a garage yeh, but i doubt theyd give a warrenty.
