Default Battery Drain on an Escort Cossie

Anyone had any experience of battery drain on there Escort cossie who may be able to help me out and give me the first places to start.

I know its like finding a needle in a haystack but if anyone has had it and found the cause please let me know.

Im going to get a multi meter and pull the fuses 1 by 1 then look at the circuit what is causing the drain but it can be time consuming.

Any help

Please

faulty fan switch on bottom passenger side of radiator will be faulty allowing the fan to over run or stay on permanantly. would put money on it. about Ł9 to replace iirc worth changing even if it isnt that.

Would you not hear the fan running?

Has the car got an alarm etc?

The same with mine couple of days & it goes flat! so just put it on trickle charge .

I think its my tracker back up battery thats fooked, but reading this i don't no now, it seems common.
Fan switch has been changed not long ago & fan kicks in & out as it should. So it's not that.

i had my bootlight comming on because i don't slam it shut it was staying on and draining the battery by accident,it never totally flattenend the battery though.
i have noticed the fan sometimes doesn't want to switch off totally,i turn the fan hard to the left and it switches off but sometimes it can creep back on when i'm inside it,could be because it hardly gets used. I always remove my earth lead and leave the car with no battery connected and have no probs, just connect it back up and fire it up.

A friend had the same problem with his tracker, My car has a tracker that is activated.

The fans come on as soon as the ignition switch is turned on.

When i put it on the battery charger after approx 15mins the needle jumps down to the empty battery signs and does this for approx 20sec then will jump back to full battery symbol then it just repeats the cycle.

Any more ideas

Bootlight is very very common on Escos's for causing battery drain.

As a quick test, whip the bulb out for a week and see if it still goes flat...

i think its one of them parts of the car that don't get lubed up or the contact goes iffy due to age and lack of use.
glad me and Will are on the ball like

How long does it take for the battery to discharge? If takes a week then will be a small draw most likely the aforementioned boot light.

Martin.
