Genuine question, but would you mind explaining what you are on strike for please? Must be something pretty damn earth shatteringly bad to inconvenience millions of people and cost the economy so much money when it can so ill afford it..

Sack those that go on strike and give the jobs to those that want them. It doesn't really matter to Joe Public why you're going on strike, it just seems that if there's some aspect of your job that you dont like, you go on strike. All I know is, that when I go to the post office, and pay for a service, I expect to get what I've paid for. I dont care how they get the item to its destination, as long as it gets there. If the equipment/process isn't there to help in the job, not my problem, just do the job you're paid to do.

The reason for the strikes is because they have been milking the system for so long, they have been finishing rounds then fucking off early or picking up extra work (within their contracted hours) for overtime! The management have now realised this and expect all the above within their contracted hours. They have had it too good for too long and its all backfired on them.

I think the original post by Warren explained his argument perfectly clearly. He is paying for a service and not getting it simple as that.
The other guy MJ was sending this around in circles for no good reason whatsoever.
I personally never miss a delivery if I am in seeing as my two dogs see everyone that comes in my yard so they dont even have to knock. Our postman is sound,if we see him out socialising or be it whilst hes working he always speaks.

what a twat, youv been told, the postie cant carry your parcels, so go get them, not difficult. Royal mail are not obliged to get the parcel to your door. Hence leaving a note, which tbh i wouldnt even bother leaving you, id just let you wait for weeks ya moaning cunt.
And you try walking miles and miles with a 30kg bag on your back all day, then youl think different. These rules are put in place by the government and health and safety not royal mail themselves. Ass!

I complety agree with Warren why pay for a parcel to be delivered for someone to then lie and say you were out when clearly you were home, what if it is not convienent to get to the sorting office on there silly opening times, and have to wait an extra 48 hours. the whole postal system is a fucking joke, shit 5 years ago I could wake up to the letteresdropping through the door, now it never ever comes before 1300 hrs. there crap dont argue about it just accept it.

Recorded/signed for is a load of crap anyway. I recently sent 2 letters recorded because I specifically wanted the proof of delivery/receipt. I know the letters were delivered, because I got a reply, but on neither occasion were they signed for, because when I went to check they both still show as only being received at the post office. So I've paid for a service I haven't received. If any other business done the same there'd be hell to pay.

I'm a postie here in Ireland and we would'nt get away with doing that and I understand your fustration but ya see all these managment w*nks they are makin more feckin rules all the time like wait to you hear this one we cannot go to our work with a stubble on our face and if we want to grow a beard or a moustache we have to put in an application in writing also when we have to do overtime (cos the posts are overloaded) we get docked money these are just a few of the things there are many many more that the general public do not see. The vast majority of us postmen/women are hard working with a lot of care for the customers we serve all the problems that your experiencing are more than likley down to managment. I know I am in Ireland and not with royal mail but from speaking to a few people just across the border in NI they all sound the same. This probably wont mean much to you but things arent always what they seem. Hope this is of use to you lad. Ps you should try ringing your local office and find out what the deal is on this issue maybe your postie IS a lazy BOLLOCKS. Good luck in the future lad.

Its a shame I think - especially for the posties that have no say.
They will be losing their salary (as I heard on R1 this morning) and have no way to recoup.
I agree with a lot of the posts in this thread, at the end of the day we pay for a [whatever] to be delivered to the destination.
If they are just posting a card to say "you are not in" when you clearly are, then that is a breach of so many things I am sure...
