Default Difference between 4x4 and 2wd track control arms?

Can anybody tell me the difference between 4x4 and 2wd track control arms? I've tried fitting a pair of 2wd to me Esc Cos, but the inner tca bush internal sleeve is too big for the cross member and won't go in.

I brought a new pair of pattern tca's and they have exactly the same problem. Are the tca's wrong?

That's 3-door TCA's that have a balljoint with a castle nut. Sapphire and escort ones have a pinch bolt on the hub

IIRC The difference between TCA's on the 2wd/4wd is the angle between the inner joint and ball joint (further forawrd/back) - been a few years since I have had them side by side to compare though

the inner bolts on the rest are M10 sized, the cossie ones are M12's, if the holes in the tca is bigger than thehole in the crossmember then you might not have a cossie crossmember in there

although, upon rereading the op's post, i think you mean that the sleaves are too wide to fit intot he crossmember setion, in which case, just grind them down a fraction

Well Im sorry for just making sure I had the correct information for my car The amount of times Ive asked some to be 100% sure I have the right part or the right information just to find out it was wrong or "Not for my car" I would rather be 100% sure before I fuck around buying or changing parts. So well done you on being so clever

Ive just opted to get adjustable TCA's as my Esc Cos had these before and they fitted fine. Either that or I press out the bushes on the new TCA's and shave down the inner sleeve on the poly bushes I have. Might as well just buy what works

Thanks for all the answers

the inner sleaves are ALWAYS wider than they need to be

so you've done the right thing by trial fitting them into the xmember before finding out on the actual fitting day that they don't fit

take the sleve itself and trial fit it into the xmember and then file it down to fit

then make sure that the sides are marked up so you don't mix them up in future

Cheers Dojj, but Im gonna go adjustable TCA's Alot less hassle changing all the bushes, etc over and will provide better setup of the front end

You, me, and the bloke next door - no-one wants to get it wrong mate. It's often overlooked that the Escort Cosworth is just a stumpy Sierra.

The inner metal sleeves will no doubt be correct, I know on the 2wd X member tightening them up pulls the metal in, I just put the slide hammer end through there and give a few whacks soon pulls the metal out again, or hammer the arms in.
