A mate of mine asked me at the weekend how much it would cost to have a new big power YB engine supplied complete which could take in excess of 500 bhp, he's thinking about a future project. I reckoned about £8k would that be about right.

Depends on a few thing fella, who is building it, what components you use etc etc, 8k for a 500 bhp engine is a little short I think

Much, much more. £12/3k bare min if it is to last for any sensible length of time, but even then clutch, gearbox, diff, brakes, tyres etc will take a hammering and fail more often. Big power = deep pockets.

Thinking low comp, long studded, lightened & balanced, polished & ported head etc, all new parts.

id say 20k for ggod parts, good gearboxs dont come cheap,
and theres no point in asking on a internet forum mate ring nms,scs, reyland, ask them they mite do u a deal on a good package

if its an engine from scratch your looking at between 7-10k depending what route you take,turbo,ecu,inlet plenum etc...you could do 500 bhp usual spec as mentioned long studs porting cams gt30 4x4 plenum with spacer 83lb siemens new engine loom and l8 pectel ecu dynoed for under 10k all in..proven 500+bhp..cheers danny

3x the amount of time you THINK it will take!

At these prices you can nearly find an entire car that has close to that power. Break it and recoup some of the cost.

as mark said engine wise 8-10k will do a good engine then theres the other bits like turbo, management , transmission etc etc etc

Will hopefully have me head gasket replaced by then, just ordered a 4 layer mountune one as the 3 layer wrc one wasn't up to the job. Hoping to get it stripped next week.
