hmm fair do's Matt, must just have been this one laptop model then.

How acer think Vista would run on a 2.8ghz Celeron chip (worst Intel chip known to man) and ...get this... 256mb ram! What were they thinking?!

BUT what ever laptop you do settle for. Make sure you remove any 30/60/90day trails of any antivirus software as a priority - causes more hassle than it cures and slows the thing riiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiight down

I havent looked further than this thread and i still like the look of and spec on the dell!

decent processor and hd, can choose the colour for free, free delivery, save Ł200 odd and i can get discount through work which for some reason is now 7% and not 10

i was going to wander to pc world for a look see.

Just twigged tom is last day to order the dell. hmmm.

Forget about any of that, just uninstall it as most pre installed antivirus will probably just be crap ones that slow the machine down more than protect you.

Install Avast which is free and works well, and also doesnt slow the machine down.

I would get rid of that for sure. Then download ESET Smart Security. Costs Ł30 or so but is definitely worth it - Doesn't slow your system at all.

Never heard of avast. Is it a firewall too? I find that zonealarm slows things down.

Nope its only a antivirus, use that and windows built in firewall.

I have for the last 2+ years and my pc is spot on

Bit of advice, get the laptop THEN ask what to run etc although you dont need to now because you have been told already

Yet the only ones that have lasted me consistently as mapping and diagnostics tools being dragged in and out of cars all day every day. My Toshibas and Sony's have spent more time away being fixed than in my damn workshop!

Dell for me - I've got a couple of Studio 15's (1 blu-ray and 1 normal) and they have been spot on.

Big sale on at the moment so you might bag a bargain

You're now about to encouter the worst part of the Dell experience.

Is it being delivered by Walsh Western? Mine was. They are the biggest muppets in the delivery business!

Took a week or two to deliver mine IIRC. I kept an eye on mine via the tracking service on their site and had to phone them to ask what they were playing at. First it was signed into the depot in Carlise, then it was meant to be delivered straight to me the next day. Instead, they took it to the Glasgow depot. I just presumed they would send it to me from the Glasgow depot, but apparently they could only deliver to me from the Carlisle depot(even though my house is somewhere between the two, and much nearer Glasgow!), so they had to send it back down there before it could come to me.

If you google 'Walsh Western nightmare' or something similar you'll see I'm not alone. Lol

cheers mate, couldn't you have just kept your mouth shut?

just faxed back all the stuff to them so hopefully thats the ball rolling. i pray i dont need to call customer service though. FUCK ME i got annoyed yesterday. Indian call centre and their english seems really good but their listening/understanding seems really bad
In the end the guy said he'd go and speak to his supervisor and call me. The fucking cunt never did and i just bought it online. Reason i called was that when i clicked on the works discount off dell link it goes to the states and prices in $. I only fucking asked if i could do over the phone in Łand they apply the discount. Don't worry mine was like that too. Will probs come on the 20th.

It will probably be on route to the Shetland depot as we speak, then from there on to London and then up to Aberdeen.
