car went well, driver was a cock, few points he seemed to be struggling and at speed over taking with on coming cars - not the best example of common sense.

It would nack a standard cossie and maybe stay with a standard evo 5/6 i reckon but your hard pushed to fine anything as slow as that these days.

A decent Evo or Cossie would do that car quite easy. And there's no need for those stupid overtaking manoveuers.

well guys a vw golf syncro is a 1.8 carb engine with bout 90bhp standard.that has 4wd it is not actualy 4wd more like 4w steering,and a very basic system,however it is still a good base for modification.thought about putting a agu 1.8T engine with a few mods and 300bhp in a vw golf syncro,would certainly be fast!!!or when i had my mk2 jetta gti 16v,a turbo mod and 2.0l bottom end to be a jetta 2.0l DOHC 16V Turbo.old vw engines are torquey as fuck and built like tanks.all good imo

A syncro is 4wd when it decects wheelspin but once it has traction it is fwd

4 wheel steering? You on crack . The Syncro system was available on the basic 1.8, the Rallye, the Country and the rare G60 Limited.

Syncro's are shite. As said before, it's FWD till it detects slip and then sends some of the power to the rear axle. That means it still always handles like a FWD car, so you can't even hang it round a corner like you can do in a 4x4 Cossie.

Sorry, I just hate VWs in general. Especially the newer ones as they tend to break down all the time. They might have a solid looking dashboard but in reliability terms I'd rather drive a Renault... And that's quite something to say you know...

The only good thing about that old MkII Golf is that they don't seem to rust at all. Which is a shame cause the bodywork is so unbelievably ugly that I sincerely wish they'd finally vanish from the streets...
