Puma won Top Gear Car of the Year award when it came out. Did the big fat Golf? Course not.

So the turbo Golf has a bit of grunt, which can be nice, Show it a corner and it shits itself!

I'll lay you down a gauntlet, any half-technical track you like, me in a Puma, you in a lardy Golf and I'll hand you your ass and have a lot more fun in the process!

Not disputing that, but personally I'd want something that was still fun to drive.

had a look at a puma with leather recaro's and I liked it but when looked in the back it looked a little bit too small and have to put two kids in the back one being only two and need to climb in with her to put her in her seat and me being 6'3 and my partner is 5'10 its just to small.

so back to the drawing board for me it is, Deffo wouldnt buy a escort now they are too dated for me and wouldnt pay more then 1k for one even if it was a RS2k

Another vote for a Focus here.

Plenty big enough for family and handle great for a family car. 1.8 or 2.0 petrol plenty fast enough and IMO the estates look great and are just the same to drive as the hatch back with the added space for prams etc if required.

Easily get one for Ł2000. I'm on my second, first was a 1.6 Zetec estate for when we had young children and current is a 1.8 TDCI hatch. Both approached / approaching 100K with no issues. (touches wood)

as a family car, a citroen xsara picasso is good, get the diesel and its 60mpg, road tax is Ł120 a year. me n the mrs have just got one as a daily run about. it cost us Ł2000.
They're not quick, but Im sure if you want a blast, the mitsi can come out?

tried to steer clear of french cars mate as i have had bad experiance with alot of them, thats why i fancied a A3, golf, puma, focus but then this mondeo came up at the right price so left a deposit on that

and i'm trying to keep her out of the evo thats why i'm getting a bigger better car for her lol
