Would you pay 6.5k for an s2 turbo if was 300+hp(with pics if anyone knows the car??)

Part of the Furniture
just can understand why do some of you think 6.5k it to much for a mint s2 with the spec that is got when there are other rs cars out there that were all paying shed loads for if that was a s1 it would be 10k

Lol yeah that's some of the reasons i was thinkin.....MY opinion though, i know loads of people love the saphs, just like i prefer my series 2. PLenty of people with rst's etc could have bought a saph cossie if they'd wanted one...it's just that they don't actually want one believe it or not lol.

I was interested in this car when it was up for sale from abs when it was ebay, i made the decision to tune one myself from scratch as i find it more fun this way. In regards to is the car worth it, imo it is worth every penny! it clearly is worth alot more in bits so grab the bargain, and does Rs cosworth 1 understand that its not just a case of building an engine??? you dont just plonk an engine is something and turn the key over and there is 300 plus, u need management, mapping ect. which does come cheap to get a car to that standard is clearly going to cost alot. did you go look at the car how was it?

Nice one. I've only just seen this thread, one of the comments from the earlier pages made me laugh where someone said 'You could buy a Cossie for that'.
As if people with RS Turbos aspire to own Cossies? There isn't a chance in hell I'd sell mine for a Cossie.
As for £6500 for that car, I know one thing. There is no way on gods green earth I would ever sell mine for that kind of money. Even knowing that the bodywork isn't A1. I got offered £12k for mine 2 years ago and didn't sell because at that time I wasn't ready. It was a serious offer though. It's widely known that it is far cheaper to extract 300bhp from 2.0 than it is from 1.6!

I bet most do!
Cossies do what rst owners want their cars to!
Go fast, handle awfully without extensive mods to the rear beam, break as frequently but harder and more expensively and look good in an 80's taxi kind of way
so true ive owned my s1 12 years and cossies dont really interest me, makes me laugh how most cossie owners look down on rs turbo owners because really we want a cossie, im sure if i wanted too i could sell the s1 and buy a taxi but why would i want too, always been into rs turbos and never fancied having a cossie sat in the garage as an ornament cause its always broke

Most people with RS Turbos I know bought them because they couldnt afford to buy and/or insure a cossie in the first, so I agree with him that in most cases people with RS Turbos that I know have aspired to own a cossie.

Yeah because rst's are much more reliable eh?
I'll adjust my comment,

As for going on about wank rear beams and handling...yeah because fwd torque steer is better than that
Also IMO...that is MY OPINION...mk3 and 4 escort shells are rusty pieces of shit when compared to sierra shells be it 3dr or saff! I'm talking from experience of both my own and friends rst's and cossies over the years!

6.5K seems reasonable if the car is as good as they say it is. You couldn't build one to that exact spec for that money. I know from experience mine has cost me more than that...
To say you could buy a Cossie for that... maybe a ropey one. To get a Cosworth in the same or very near condition to some of the cleaner RST's on here, mechanically and cosmetically anyway they wouldn't be 6k thats for sure...

Come on bud i dont really think theres any need for the silly name is there?
"not that much better" - so you are saying it's better? If so point proved!
yes there are a load of better cars out there but my point is that a cossie is better than an rst and imo most rst owners want a cossie! i doubt you'll disprove that! try a poll!

I was ready to call you Porkchop this time, but thought better of it.
It's only the Internet!
I hear what you're saying about the Cossie thing, it's the furthest thing from my mind, but I acknowledge that some RST owners feel that it is the done thing.

I've got a reasonable SOH but when someone is arguing with you and they call you a silly name it looks like they have sour grapes and are trying something else to deflect from their loss in the argument

Its still a ford, yes an evo is better than a cossie, but people are often fiercely loyal to the RS brand, and the cossie gives them a non FWD car which is still available readily for sensible money and works as both a practical car and a toy.

How many do it that way if they are so feckin good?
Like you say natural progression.
Granted his erst is one of the top if not the top 1600 cvh in the uk, but he needs to remove his blinkers ffs.

I love your opinion on RS Turbos, its something I know I can rely on to never EVER change.
It's true though!!!
Naturally, build-quality of the Sierra is a lot better than that of the Escort cause it was simply a higher-range car. That still applies to modern Fords. Compare the build quality of a recent Fiesta or Focus with that of a Mondeo. You'd have to be blind, not to spot the difference! Same goes for rust protection. Why do Ka's rot away within 8 years when L reg Mondeos still pass MOT without problems? Cause the Ka has been built to a much tighter budget than the Mondeo.
There's not many things I dislike about my RST but one of them is the very poor shell rigidity. Hell it sometimes feels like driving an old convertible! The Saff however, due to it's 4dr layout, feels so much more solid. One of the reason I'd actually always prefer a Saff over a 3 dr.
Anyways, I own a Saff Cossie and an RST. They're totally different kind of beasts but I love them both.
It's a disgrace to see fellow RS owners slagging each other off when we should actually stand united against the japcrap fast and the furious invasion...

Christians RST is one of the best RST's anywhere, but the same spend on an escort cosworth would have it as pretty average.
20K (total guess at what something like christians would cost to build) gets you an amazing RST or a luke warm escort cosworth.
So if you are fairly hard up but wanting to have a car thats impressive of its type, the RST is the RS for you, as this 6K RST the thread is about would get loads of respect from RST owners as being one of the best out there, but 6K on a 3 door for example would see you in one of the worst 3 doors at ford fair or whatever.
I dont believe that there are many people in an RST who would prefer Christians RST to Martin Hadlands Escort for example, which is equivalent in terms of its position within the marque to Christians car, but means spending big money not medium money in the first place.
So again, that to me says that people are just in the RST cause they cant (or wouldnt) afford to be in an equivalent escort cosworth.
If Christian genuinely wouldnt swap his car for martins car, then I suspect he is in a VERY small minority of RST owners!
Same for me with my nova really, I wouldnt enjoy having built a 20K escort cosworth as much as I enjoy my nova, but I would enjoy building Martin's or Dave's as much, but then its a 60k or so car not a 20K one, and I simply cant justify spending that money instead.
So for me if you have medium money to spend, I can see the appeal in an RST, but if you have big money to spend then I cant, I would spend 20K on building an RST possibly (although it wouldnt be FWD!), but I wouldnt spend 60K on doing so, I would have an escort cossie project instead, and likewise if I had 120K to spend on building a modified car it wouldnt be an escort it would be an RS200, as to me thats the next logical step up the RS family tree!

What a load of shit chip/chop ( its like tag team bullshit )
I happen to prefer an RS1600i to all cossies.....its what makes me happy.
I can show you probably hundreds, probably thousands of people who are into their mk3/4's, fiestas, pumas, mondeos, focus' who dont give a toss about whether a cossie is better, they still prefer what they have to a saff etc.
Its not natural to assume that all rst ( or 'lesser' ford ) owners aspire to the cosworth models.
I can guarantee that they dont regardless of your own ( undocumented, unproved, and purely fatuous ) opinions
It sexactly the same as your Nova Chip.....you could have something a lot more decent for the cash you've chucked at that heap, but you dont aspire to it because you prefer doing your project your way on the shell of your choice
