Default New alternator on a focus, now got a problem...

Ford focus, just changed alternator for a new one and the battery light comes back on after 30secs.
Been told that it may have to go to ford to be caliberated. Is this correct ?
Something to do with the smart charge??
Ford wise, this is abit modern for me None of our Vauxhall's (Im a vauxh tech) do it though.

The Focus employs as you say a "Smart Charge" system and the voltage regulation is under control of the ECU so would imagine this is where the problem lies, I'm guessing the old alternator was faulty?
