For me its a total load of shite....i get that the UK is mainly christian and thats the reason that its celebrated.

I get the giving bit as its nice to share stuff with the people you care about, but don't agree that socicety says i have to do it. So i have to give presesnts on christmas day, yet i don't think the celebration should even be on the calendar as i don't believe in Jesus Christ. I don't believe the fact that he existed because no actual evidence shows he was ever alive aside from a story book writen by preists some century's after the so called birth, bit like chinese whispers really.

Now i have to give my parents a card on christmas day and a present because i think they might not speak to me for it as they are god fairing christians - still don't understand that.

So what about all the other religions that are out there, and people who aint christian living in the UK, celebrating a religious thing that aint their religion - How does that work...?

Or is christmas now just a holiday rather than being bout christians ?

Should it be renamed to "winter piss up" or somert ?

Our family stopped celebrating christmas a few years ago, and were loads happy for it!

For 99% of people its all about giving and recieving or presents! How materialistic is that!

You spend stupid amount of money, stress out for about 2 months, and for what, something thats all forgotten about by boxxing day!

agree its gone too commercial and people should stop worrying about spending money and just spend time with family and friends as with the life people live now there isnt much time for anything else apart from work

there has to be a number of 'feel good' factors every year otherwise we would all go insane , or end up like dingy

I love Christmas!

Even if it is a load of tosh, it is still something to look forward to and makes a lot of people happy

Also it is one of the few times a year the entire family gets together, and is always good for a laugh.

Even though I am not very religious at all, and neither is my family as a whole, we all still enjoy it.

Imagine a year with only you birthday to look forward to.. how boring! (I bet most people who hate Christmas don't like celebrating their birthday either )

I hate it! Simply for the fact that every fucking advert on tv starts with "this christmas why dont you buy...." or similar.
Its turned into one big money taking exercise for shops and manufacturers.
As mentioned above, i hate the way you are pretty much expected to buy people presents, its all rammed down your neck whether you like it or not.
Personally, I am not religious in ANY way atall. But I do hate the fact that cristians hav eto suffer all the "you cant do this because it offends other religions" what a load of shite! What about it being the other way round when there is some other festival at other times of the year? Say something about a foreign religion and you are instantly racist.
I also dont understand why people clear the shelves off every supermarket as if its the last day you can ever buy food! Theyre only shut for 1 or 2 days for fuck sake!

in my family we don't do christmas, my girlfriends family they do, and with new year everybody has to buy presents, not for christmas though.

Think it's bollocks, her mum can't stand me and she has took the card with my name on it, she has to buy me a present for new year

(that's another thing, grown up people drawing name cards to buy stupid presents, what's that about )

I'd rather spend my own money and buy me something usefull instead of the load of wank you get from more or less strangers. (in laws)
