Default Sierra engine conversion advise!"

I have a MK1 Sierra which I'm considering doing an engine conversion on. It currently has a 2.3 V6 Cologne engine and I'm considering the following options:

1. 2.9 24 valve Cosworth engine from a granada or scorpio.

2. 3.0 24 valve engine from the present mondeo i.e. ST220.

The advantage of the newer engine being its slightly larger capasity and the fact that it has an alloy block so should be quite a bit lighter.

However, I am not sure if it is possible to fit these engines to the Sierra as they are obviously designed for front wheel drive and also if a suitable gearbox can be mated to it.

Can any of you advise?

Stick with the 24v idea, a lot cheaper to do and can be made to make 220bhp for little cash.

im not sure about the mondoe unit, but the granada 24v is a peice of piss to install it uses the sierra mounts, only the electronics can be fiddly and in my opinion it looks better. but if u do manage to install the mondy unit id love to see.

my neigbour has a red st220 and it seems to do the job, although it dosent sound as good as my 24v cos, and it dosent seem as quick, i know its meant to be 220bhp but on the motorway it cant keep up with the cos

Thought I'd check incase as I saw a modern mondeo lump really cheap, but by the sounds of it its probably not a good idea. Thanks for everyones input!" Think I'll stick with the older cossy lump
