I suspect if they were that worthwhile then we'd all be using them already, however the principle seems sound just like using an electric power steering pump ?

Dave Walker has used these on the cvh and i belive there was a measureable difference in parasetic losses. Also at high rpm a distinct flow improvement. Ill see if i can find an article.

an electric water pump with proper control has many advantages, but the flow rate must be high enough.

Great idea really, wish id got one for my cossie really, just didnt think about it at the time of ordering my new pump.

With an electric one it can be controlled based on what the engine needs, not just vary with RPM in a way that doesnt really suit whats needed.

and you could run it just before switching off and it can be left running after the engine has stopped to cool down the turbo.

yeah but water flow thru the turbo carries on after you switch off anyway, due to the effect of the water boiling in the water jacket and hot air rising, vacuum caused by this etc. etc.

water flowing in the turbo isnt what you need anyway, its oil to be honest.

I read that article and the dude in CCC mag saw gains throughout the rev range. I'm sure he got 5bhp at the top end. If remember rightly he used a 1.4 Clio cam belt which was the right length and type. if I'd have kept my S2 I'd have done that and gladly taken the 5bhp fankyou very much!

Used a belt why ? there electric ? I just took of my water pump, used blanking plate with the right outlet on, and plumbed the EWP in and wired
it up. they are very very efeiciant, mine is on a switch so i can get it up to
temp a bit quicker aswell .

Mine is on a tvr engine in a saph and i did actually just remove the impellar
open it out slightly with a die grinder, then got the hole welded up . I did
have a blanking plate diy job but didnt use it, but all the angles and reducers come with the kit to simply plumb it into the system.

i hardly use the car so he said realibility would be a problem

basically i have no worries with what i have got so he said that for the trouble it would be to mount and stuff it would not be worth it

he has used a couple before on zetec engined motors and said that they work really well, got good results from them but reliabilty once again let them down

Gus, any chance of getting more info' as to why they failed please and was EWP asked to comment on their failure?

I don't understand why they are unreliable!

Great to hear of other peoples findings
