Default This is pathetic.

Last two weeks the A3 tdi has been cutting out now n then at junctions, then the glow plug light started flashing on our way to skegness last saturday, so il pulled over, turned engine off. Tried to start it, it sounded like a tractor Tried again fired up as normal, off we went, no toruble. Tuesday Lindsay rings, the glow plug light is on again and another one So next day she rings Audi, who decide to send someone out as it may not be safe for Lindsay to drive - fair enough Bloke puts it on tester and says 'ah, have you changed the left brake bulb recently?' Lindsay says well my husband did yes. Bloke said thats your problem, its still registering a fault with the brake light, which registers a fault with the braking system and reduces power etc...So she says so what do we have to do when a bulb goes? Get us out or take it to Audi he says Sorry, but thats just a joke! Glad im going back to the blue oval on 2nd sept Or are all new cars like this now?

Daft aint it, not to change the bulb, i can do that, but need to go to them or get them out to reset the ECU. Luckily its still under warranty but even so!

I wonder how much labour they'd charge to change the bulb and clear the fault code so it doesnt self destruct again!?!?!

Thats just ridiculous!

Bloody hell, I've heard it all now!!!
That's not real!

Most over active traction control I've ever experienced was on an Audi A2.... throw it into a bend and it virtually kills all power until you totally straighten up again
I'll stick to 70s and 80s cars thanks, 90s at a push but I'm never buying anything newer, ever!

I understand the logic of a warning light coming on when one of your bulbs has failed, thats a good idea, but that is just shite

my mate autobiography range rover tells you when a bulbs gone but you dont need to reset the ecu just give u a warning message when u fire her up even tells u if the trailer you have on has a bulb out which i think is good but if i get told ive got 1 out on the st i change it asap as i may be leaving the pub after a few and it gives them an excuse to pull me

Sapphires/Sierras/Cavaliers and i'm sure many many more had bulb out indicators years ago, you didn't need to rest any ECUs when replacing a bulb on them did you??

Step backwards possibly?

The Ex's mother had a Mk5 Golf, am sure when her rear brake light out it said it was a dealer job due to the seal

Either way it's just money for the car makers to try an get back through dealers. Piss take but true

At least BMW don't need to offer the service of resetting your ECU if you change a bulb

lol - that is one of the daftest statements I have read in a while (approximately a day going by PF standards). So, it is a BAD thing that a car tells u, u have a light out? Would u rather u waited till u got pulled, they then give u a 7 day ticket and u have to pay an MOT station to stamp it and then return it to the cop station... or would u rather the car told u, u got the bulb fixed in quick time and it costs you 50p for the bulb...

ADE: I like modern cars, far more reliable, especially a good feeling if they are under warranty still, I'd not trade my new M3 for an 90's car unless it was a macca f1, however I appreciate that they become hard to maintain if u are wanting to do home mechanics on a budget.

Cheers
RW

not at all. all lights are controlled by the central ecu via the CANbus
