How to spot a fcuking time waster
on the phone any hints or tips please
Just had a bloke come round rev the fuck out of my bike
first thing he said was alright to wip it up the road mate
Me, have you got comp insurance for my bike or the cash
Him,nah mate didnt bring any
Me, sorry mate no chance
Tells me he is going to strip it for a track bike so it dont matter about the odd chip mark etc that you get with a 17k bike
and then said would I take an offer as there are some marks on the paintwork
and then after all that he said that its not the bike for him

First to ignore are the texters lol either trying to get you to call them, or trying to hold a conversation via text rather than making a call.
the dead heads are the ones who don't ask the questions you would expect. Usually start with "what you going to take on it" just hang up at that point. "are you open to offers" is ok but trying to fix a bottom price before seeing and moments into the call says it all.
The others that say "have you had many look at it" - these are the people that are looking to try and batter you down, same as "how long you had it up for sale" fob them off - wasters.
If they ask the right questions, stuff you'd expect ,mot, tax, history, owners, mileage, hpi etc and organise a day to come down and want to get to you asap then they are often more genuine and keen to get fixed up.
It's a mind field, but you tend to just know when someone is a dreamer.

There are no ways of telling. When I was selling my last car a young guy phoned who seemed really keen. It was going to be his first Impreza, and first performance car for that matter. It had been my first quick car too, and I had spent about Ł4k getting it exactly how I wanted it so I obviously wanted it to go to someone who would look after it. I certainly wasn't in a rush to sell it, so when he told me that buying my car would depend on the sale of his, I told him I would hold on to it for a few weeks.
He kept me updated with texts etc for the first week and then I didn't hear another thing. He seemed really genuine and a nice guy too. I had told a few people who phoned in that time that the car was sold!
I was obviously being soft at the time, but as I said, I was sort of attached to that car.

What a cock Matt!
I hate em and have had loads of experiences up til now... when I sold my black 2wd saff a mate said he knew someone who was very interested and wanted to meet up asap that evening. It was dark and had been raining but that didn't matter to him and he was happy to meet at a service station that evening. So we met, he said can I take him for a spin; i was reluctant but he was very interested... took him for the usual cossie test drive which left him shaking with a massive grin, he offered me 4700 that he'd get by the end of the week and we shook on it....
...didn't hear anything from him or my supposed mate after that!!! No more mr nice guy from now on
Also had the 1am texters too... 'whats the lowest you'll take mate?'...
...'i'm not your mate and i'm not selling it to you, now fook off and let me sleep'!!!

Lock it up well pal
We get them all the time with the off road stuff!
Sounds like all they wanted to do was have a good sniff around and check how easy it was to get

Matt thats an arse, the single reason I hate selling cars/bikes/vans is people like him. Thats how I usually tend to hang on to things way longer than I should because I simply just cant be arsed with time wasters.
Best thing to do is assume everyone is wasting your time, no cash means no test ride, couple of revs is ok but start wringing its neck like your on the start line of the Moto GP and Id have gave him a slap. I find being really blunt with people a good method because the genuine folks will stick it out if they are really interested and the time wasters quickly get bored of it and fuck off.

whenever I sell a car - I always say the first person to put the cash in my hand get the car to the buyer.
I recently sold a focus, tried on ebay but it fell just short of the reserve, I had 5 people contact me about it after the auction had ended, I gave them all the lowest price I would sell as well as my address. One guy came up at 7pm on that night and collected it 9am the following morning with cash.

The lads that turned up to drive my m3, were clearly serious, however, his mate, who did the test drive, was powering round a very big motorway roundabout, yanking the wheel to see what it did. If the car had still had the previous track suspension and geo setup, he would have been pointing backwards in a second. He then nailed 4th to 8000rpm (140 miles per hour) and proceeded to sink 5th. I wasn't nervous, but I just said, I think 140mph is probably enough on a test drive of a car u don't own. He got the message and said it was faster than his porsche. We went back and they bought it in cash on the spot.
Hard to tell sometimes.
Cheers
