In terms of bolting up cossie mechanicals, anyone ever re-shelled a 4x4 cossie into a non cossie but 4x4 shell???? Been thinking "track car" if i can get my hands on a good 4x4 shell i'd be happy, or failing that i was wandering if i could buy a complete 4x4 ghia for a few hundred quid and drop the cossie engine etc into that.

No danger of that, i'll be getting rid of the 2WD and hopefully get a track car sorted out!

Lol, i'd be after it but after the weekends analysis of various track cars it needs to be 4WD, do you want rid of the shell as i might try and convert it to 4WD, would have to see what's involved. I know you have to cut out bits for the driveshafts at the front, and the mounts/cradle for the box will need to be modded, not sure about what else though.

True, but he's giving the shell away... so might as well take it off him since its free, can always weigh it in if you get pissed off with looking at it.

Cheers,

the XR4x4s are hatchbacks

any late saph should be able to bolt the 4x4 stuff up to. and if you get an early one it only needs the gearbox tunnel "modifying" (ie smacking with a big fuckoff hammer or at most cutting a hole n rewelding)

Rog,
speak to Phil out at Findon. He bought my old 4x4 saff shell and used it as a track car.

He has since reshelled it into an Escort so the saff shell might be up for grabs.
Oh he also bought and fitted my cage as well so it would be an excellent starting point.

Paul, if thats the same shell I'm thinking of he sold it ages ago, and i'd pretty much be looking for a complete car bar engine/box. Still in 2 minds to track the RWD saph but i think it'd be shit on the corners, loads of fun but no traction, after being to knockhill at the weekends (in the rain) anything RWD was all over the place. Scoobys/EVO's/Escos were no problem tho. Don't really want to do it twice, i'd rather get the right car and stick with it, so i think i'll just stick to the original idea of keeping the white saph as a road car.

JIM, when you say "Any late saph" do you mean just 4x4's????

no i dont mean just 4x4s. when they started making 4x4 cars they just started using slightly different shells, so a late 2wd will probably have a 4x4 shell

I might be easier if you buy a XR4x4 and just put the cossie engine in.

problem with te XR4x4 is that a lot of it wont atch up both trim wise (hatchback) and anciliery wise.
(ie fuel lines, rad etc.)
better off starting with a 2.0 DOHC doner shell
