Your late. I've already posted a thread for it

A Looking In View is still better.

And they are not Grunge. Cantrell has stated that himself. He refers to AIC as being a Hard Rock, Bluesy Metal band

Seattle band from last 80's early 90's, "broke out" with Nirvana, Soundgarden and Pearl Jam.

Thats Grunge enough for me, I'll call it the Seattle sound if it make you feel better.

Regardless tho, what a great album!

My brother is at the Pearl Jam gig tonight at the 02. Going to go pick him up from Ealing Station in abit.

Yes they were from Seattle but Seattle sound was very recognizable. With AIC you didn't get that. They have a sound that no other band sounds like.

Dude check out Devin Townsends 2009 Album called 'Ki'. I think you'll really dig it.

Wow Pearl Jam, lucky boy. 'Black' (mix of arron lewis cover and mtv acoustic style) was one of the songs I performed on guitar and sung with a live band at our wedding. Had over 200 people in tears

Arron lewis cover which is how mine kinds sounded with a few extra insturments.

Dont suppose anyone saw me as FORD FAIR, was wearing Kurts T shirt he wore when francis was a baby.

Black Tshirt with "Grunge is dead..." on it.

Hese a pic of 2 posters, I have about 50 doted about, but took a lot down as they were rare unique copies and were getting damaged.

...

Ive been playing 15 years or so and im still shit. but trick is to just have fun and enjoy your self......and play what YOU enjoy listening to.

CAN I PLAY GUITAR........Depends on who your asking

I love electric, but i find it sooo much more difficult. the acoustics just seem to feel "Natrural" if that makes sence?

Guitar - 1983 Fender Stratocaster (Squire-3 single coil pick up)

Nirvana - Aneurysm

HERE YOU CAN SEE WHAT I MEAN ABOUT BAD HABBITS. IVE EVEN MANAGED TO MARYLIN MANSON SOUND LIKE NIRVANA

Guitar - 1979 Westbury Standard (Solid Mahogany body/ rosewood fret. Gibson Les Paul internals with De Marzio pickups original from factory)
Marylin Manson - The Reflecting God

Told you I was shit..........!!!

Thing is to just enjoy your self!!!

This is nylon (sorry warning I cant sing!)
Guitar - 1969 Mitsuma (build number 006)
Radiohead - Street Spirit

Steel strung

Guitar - 1970's Jim Harley - Colorado Dreadnought CR30/G

Marylin Manson - Dissacioative

Me and the missus were at that too. Fucking cool gig. Eddie was quite pissed by the end adfter getting through two bottles of red.

Not hugely into them myself, but surprisingly recognised half the set. Quite a lot from Ten and Vitalogy, but loads of new stuff I didn't know too.

Anyone know why the keyboardist was booed?

Grunge was more punk than blues (well for Nirvana anyway)

If Jerry Cantrell (AIC Guitarist) says they are not Grunge then they are not Grunge. Yes they broke onto the scene when Grunge was becoming popular but like Cantrell said, Its just a Tag that people will remember you by because of the era and place we came from. As Cantrell is concerned, they are a Metal band.

Can you even class AIC that the question. They have a sound of their own. No band sounds like them. I don't class them as grunge more than i class them more Dark Rock.

I agree with pardeep. Alice in chains were a suburban metal band, after nirvana broke big,-AIC adpated their sound slightly to fit in with the 'grunge' sound.
I'll have a look out for AIC new stuff, as music is dead at the mo.

Lee Ivatt- i take it you've got the 'with the lights out' lol.

Fucking understatment.

Hum lets see

Lilly allen, etc and all the other fucking girls that sing like they are 12 years old

Or twat face bands like Artic Monkies, so all the masses can like it but thing they are coll and different. Wouldnt even give them the grace of labeling them with indy and indy is shite.

I actually prefer calvin harris and dizze rascals stuff at the mo Which for me is totally out of character.

ANd no it dont have "with the lights out" I refuse to buy it due to my grunde ethos

I have most of the songs on all the bootlegs that were flying around in the late 90's on cd.

Oh fuck off Sums up grunge

Fucking punks like the Clash, Pistols, Ramones, etc etc were saying that when Kurt was still shitting in his shorts

I won't piss on anyone's parade or slate their choice of music - some would take the piss out of me for citing Metallica as my all time favourite band, but lets face it - Kurt was no innovator or original. He was just doing what countless others had done before him, just in his own way. Nirvana weren't even THAT good! Don't get me wrong, I listened to them, and they weren't shit, but as musicians, and as a collective, they weren't fantastic. Kurts playing was VERY sloppy, and rather basic. As a band they were only a modern, "chilled punk" act. Bands like AIC, Pearl Jam, Smashing Pumpkins that were around at the time were actually far better bands. PJ's "Ten" was SUCH an underrated debut, and is still incredibly underrated today.

Nirvana just had "appeal" - and I hate to say it, with a lot teenage girls. Everyone loves a bad-boy, and at that time, being a miserable, self loathing and media shy bad boy seemed to be what was marketable....

Anyway, I've gone off track. I just wanted to say he was not an innovator, and original, nor a god. Hendrix - legendary innovator : completely changed the way music was played, percieved, written, almost everything! "Dimebag" Darrell Abbot - legend and complete innovator when it came to guitar playing. He drew upon what others like Eddie Van Halen, Hendrix, Paige, etc had touched upon, and completely tore up the rule book. He changed how metal guitar was used and structured. Bands like Sabbath paved the way, bands like Metallica, Anthrax, Aerosmith, Guns N Roses - all different genre's of music, took that lead and improved and innovated the musical scenes - making way for bands like Nirvana to do what they wanted to do....

Wondered how long it would take for you to show your face mate

I totally agree with everything you say.

But the whole point you make about kurt and nirvana being sloppy and basic is the appeal for me.

Dont get me wrong Nirvana is what i grew up on, and its something that will always be close to my heart. as When i was a teen growing up the music related to me very well.

Im a greater "fan" of all sorts

My top few being

Marylin Mason
Led Zep
Black sabbath/ozzy
Pink floyd
Metalica
3 doors down
skunk ansie
Red hot chillies
Pantera
Pearl jam
Soundgarden

and more bluesy stuff like

Clapton
Hendrix
Robert johnson
Leadbetter

No way do I ever believe kurt was pioneer of music technique, he simply copied and ripped off (he even admitted several time to this) other peoples ideas.

But as a musician for a Generation, and spokes person if you like he was great. He made people realise you dont have to be good, you just have to do you best.

Once again if straying like you now.

Fact is (even with the disagreements on this thread) we are all part of a bigger collective.

That being the passion for "proper" music.

Today ive been listening to the whole jimi hendrix woodstock 2cd album and most of my led zep albums.

ANd i just thought, are we ever going to have anything like this again???

Like i said earlier the biggest thing on the mainsteam "scene" at the mo are artic fucking monkeys

Hence my original post about AIC. Regardless of all our personal slants on the subject.

Its great to hear a record like this, just makes me think maybe music is not "dead".

I'd probably say U2 are the biggest thing on the mainstream scene - poxy Arctic Monkeys haven't done anything for ages now... Yet U2 sold out Wembley Stadium a few nights ago

And I deliberately stayed away from this thread But boredom, being cooped up in the house for a week, got the better of me

I'm off to crush some grunge with some insane metal riffs! Actually no I'm not - I've got AC/DC's back catalogue on random at the mo

Personally I'll take Pearl Jam over anything Nirvana did. Nirvana were great but fact of the matter is that his personality was marketable to the whole world at that time in Music. Which is why they got where they were.

AIC Facelift album pisses over Nirvana's Bleach Album, Dirt pissed all over 'Nevermind' and the self titled AIC album pissed over InUtero. But the only reason they didn't have the publicity that Nirvana had was because Layne Stayley wasn't a twat like Kurt and moaning about how he doesn't like being famous. Kurt didn't like being famous but still recorded albums knowing they would be going out to the public. What twat who doesn't like fame records another album and then bitches and moan about it.

Eddie Vedder, Layne Stayley and Chris Cornell (before he sold out) was what the Seattle Music scene was truly about. Nirvana were just the band that was lucky enough to get the publicity for it.

Pearl Jam's Ten album is still amazing to listen to. PJ have only got better and better as they have matured. Hence i'm always looking forward to their new album. New one out later this year.

If you were to take MTV unplugged Nirvana's isn't as impressive as PJ's. AICs Unplugged blows both of them out the water. That was AIC first show in 3 years and it couldn't have sounded any better than it was. Layne Stayley was doped up and it just added that extra bit of perfection to the show.

You can see real musicianship between all the members of AIC. Nirvana never had the musicianship between any of the members.

Compare AIC last song 'Died' done with Layne Stayley to Nirvana's 'I Know Your Right'

AIC

Nirvana

All of Nirvana's lyrics were the same. AIC had some pretty dark lyrics. Take AIC's 'Angry Chair' those lyrics really freaked me out.

What do I see across the way
See myself molded in clay
Stares at me, yeah Im afraid
Changing the shape of his face - AIC Angry Chair 1991

I like Nirvana but i don't see why they over shadow the better bands that came out of Seattle.

No... Hard Rock + Blues would be Aerosmith, or something like Poison's "Native Tongue" record (from after the hair-rock days)

Hard Rock + spliffs = Grunge Spend as much time as you can stoned out of your nut and mellowed out to fuck and then make a record!

Grunge was the fore-runner to "stoner rock"

Kind of picking up on Thrush's point AIC are far more technical and tight.

This is my favorite unplugged AIC

Considering it was their first concert in 3 years, and laynes drug addiction was killing him. Its a great performance.
