How much £££ is required to make a reliable 300-350bhp from a redtop engine? including buying the engine and what mods need to be done?

right, the red top c20xe is an n.a 150bhp engine

the c20let looks the same but has a turbo and makes 204.

The accepted stage 2 tune on vauxhalls is about 280bhp and the limit of the standard turbo.

If I wanted 350bhp Id be going for:

Cheap steel rods - 200 quid
Machined standard pistons, 0.5mm oversize - 500
rebored block with oil squirter jets - 150
new oil and water pumps - 70
Standard head, valves etc
Xe n/a camshafts, retard the inlet
You can modify cheapish 200sx manifolds onto a new flange - 150
GT28RS - 900?
you can probably manage on a standard inlet manifold
vxr injectors - 70

Ad to that intercooler and pipework, some aftermarket management etc etc and it soon mounts up.

Well, a C20XE is a 2ltr 16v N/A engine.
The C20LET is a 2ltr 16v Turbo'd engine.

LET is standard at around 204bhp. To get about 300bhp, my mate who has been there and done that informs me you can do it with just a phase 2 chip and a frontera Intercooler, all potentially sub £200 - then labour on top. Aswell as the usual fuelling/boost adjusting/mapped.

thats fucking peanuts coldo !!!

if the standard output is 204 , i assume it can make 300 with no internal mods?

like they factord 300 bhp into the engine when building ,

Just buy a z20leh - 3" exhaust + decent intercooler = 300bhp or hybrid the turbo for 330bhp...

More like 280 that 300 really, and the turbos tend not to last that long if you drive it hard often.

Starting with a 100K mile old 200bhp turbo and trying to get 280-300bhp out of it is asking for trouble.

Getting to 350 is where it starts getting dearer, as per the spec Al Olsen just outlined.

Phase 2 C20let is the probs 1 of the best engine combo's you can buy £ for £

get a standard C20let rebuild it, fit ARP rod bolts, oem gaskets and new pumps, get the turbo serviced and use a Frontera front mount intercooler and you'll have 280bhp and 300lb-ft all day long, which is totally usable and reliable and next to no lag what so ever

Its harder to transplant, due to the immobiliser etc, the C20LET is very self contained.

IF its in a modern vauxhall though, yes the LEH is a great choice, although ive yet to see one with just a remap make much over a genuine 300bhp personally, and ive seen quite a few on the rollers.
