Howdy,
In a couple of weeks I hope to change jobs and pull in nearly double my current salary and like most Ford enthusiast's I want to move up the chain from RS Turbo to Escort Cosworth in Imperial Blue
(maybe I could keep the RST as well) The Mrs reckons we should have about 1.5k a month left over after bills which I want to put in the fund.
Now, am I going to benefit more from buying a standard one and getting it to power around the stage 3 area or more for some track and pod abuse ? Ideally stomp on a few friends that have Evo 7's and 9's.
Or am I better off buying one that is already modified ?
If I buy a standard one where / who would sort out power, transmission, suspension, and all the essentials as I see it ?
Naturally I've been scanning Pistonheads for the past 24 hours and prices vary between 10k and 20k depending on spec.
Here's a link for a 500brake one
http://www.pistonheads.co.uk/sales/1095264.htm
Would it be more worthwile saving up that sort of money in the first place, then buying a standard one for 12k and spending 8 - 10k on it ??

buy one already done and save fucking around, make sure its a known car and you'll know if its caused the owner grief.
unless you enjoy fannying around waiting for people and bits or buying a possible wreck its not a bad idea to buy one where the owner has had the kit off and inspected it for rust.
you will get loads more advice here and if you do join up say i sent ya.

I'd buy one on condition/history/mileage over anything else mate.
They seen to rot more than other cossies and are at the age wehre some of that will be coming through on the sills. So you might need to look at that on some cars before you even think about power
you wont "stomp" on any Evo 7's and 9's with stage 3 either you will need a fair bit more power for that IMHO which will start to cost.
All IMHO

a stage 3 cossie wouldnt stomp all over your mates evo's, i had a stage 3 escort and couldnt do anything with a standard scooby sti, that was the final straw and it got sold after a few very diapointed month of ownership.
Ps there not slow just not a QUICK car imo

Thanks for the replies fella's
I haven't got the money yet so don't start chucking your key's in a bowl just yet, just wondering weather it's better to buy modded or standard. I will of course take an Esc Cos perfectionist with me to look at a few nearer the time and a mechanic ![Top](https://passionford.com/forum/images/smilies/smile011.gif)
I'm not too fussed about stomping on Evo's to a point, however if the funds where there I'd have no problem in spending the £££ to do it.
